Amboise

This story happened on: 18/06/2018

Our last stop on our early-summer trip to France was at the municipal campsite on the Ile d’Or at Amboise

It’s a large site with areas for caravans, motorhomes and tents. Two of the three toilet blocks have been renovated, the third was closed when we visited. The charge per night was 17€ for the two of us, including electric hook-up. The gates are opened using unique codes issued when you book in. Reception is closed at lunchtime. There is an excellent cafe/ restaurant adjacent to the office.

Access to the town is back across the bridge over the Loire. It was a long way for Cath but she took it in easy stages.

We managed to get across the bridge on Sunday for the market, said to be one of the largest in the region.

We also took advantage of the Tourist Train which has a stop just outside the campsite gates

We had arranged a rendezvous with our chums, David and Kathy, whom we first met in the Var. They were on a short break to do some cycling to the Chateaux of the Loire. They had time to share a ride on the ‘Tic-Tok’.

One stop on the route was Leonardo da Vincii’s house.

One of his inventions was the counterpoise garden parasol as you can see.

Despite the limitations on our mobility, we managed to enjoy strolls around the pedestrian precinct of the old town. We had visited the castle many years ago and so weren’t disappointed that we couldn’t visit it this time. Here are  some photos.

And here’s the view from the campsite!

That all seems familiar as we stayed on that site on our visit to Amboise. Didn't use the petit train as I don't think it was running when we were there. How much longer have you got in France?

Back in UK, David. Working our way through scheduled medical appointments, but hope to be back over the Channel in late August.

I also disabled our u/s doorstep at Amboise by removing the motor and tying the step up with ty wraps! Went through a packet, snipping them off at each night's stop.
