Alvor Anniversary

This story happened on: 13/03/2013

About this time last year, we signed up to Club Together and submitted our ‘Postcard from Alvor’ to the Your Stories section. The weather then was all sunshine with temperatures in the twenties. This year we’ve had a week of sunshine and showers at Alvor: long suuny periods stopped short by sudden out-of-nowhere heavy rain. The pattern’s changing with more sun but with a brisk northerly breeze.

Alvor is still a delightful winter stop, with a beautiful beach and an excellent boardwalk network across the dunes which provides seaside access for everyone. We’ve fallen into a routine of morning coffee at our favourite beach bar, followed by an hour’s walk along the beach. One direction takes you to the breakwater at the mouth of the estuary, the other to the rocks and cliffs.

We’re at Camping Alvor again; however, the emphasis here is turning towards mobile homes at the expense of touring pitches. There is an alternative now with the opening this year of an ‘Aire’ adjacent to the Sports Complex. The charge there is 4 Euros a night, meanwhile we’re paying about 10 which includes electicity, hot water, and free wifi.

With decent wine from the Pingo Doce supermarket only about £1 a bottle, and the complete absence of snow, we’re not planning to return to NG11 until April. Our next stop was to be Tomar, but we need to follow the weather.

Hope you like the photos

Chasncath.... It looks like you made the right choice again this year. Unless you are booked on a specific ferry I would take a bit longer to travel back . We & Northern France have suffered some chill winds lately & the forecast is for more. Nice pics too

Nice to hear from you, Ken and Brue! Weather here is holding up and Cath had her first paddle in the sea for 2013 yesterday.Happy We're undecided on our next move: up to Tomar and across or back to the Costas? We were hoping to meet up with chums here at Alvor, but they're stuck in Granada waiting for a new Italian gearbox for their 'van.Sad

We're leaving tomorrow for Granada to meet our chums waiting for their new gearbox.
