Our Visit to Cirencester

This story happened on: 27/12/2017

Where could we go in January with our son’s dog, friends and their dog, and our camper van’s? Cirencester, first time we have visited, and we were not disappointed. There was a lot of snow on the ground when we arrived, and it was very cold. That said we were there for a couple of days and planned to make the most of our couple of days away, Christmas behind us and New year a couple of days in front. We just wanted to unwind after a very bust Christmas. The site itself, is what you would expect from a Caravan and motor home camp site. Excellent facilities blocks, good number of toilets, showers, under cover laundrette and dish washing area. There is a dog walk area, Children’s play area and playing fields. The town of Cirencester is a 20-minute walk away, you can either walk along side the road or take the scenic route (turn left opposite the booking in office) walk down the lane, across two cattle grids and then through side gate on the left. When we were there all gates were chained and looked locked (the one small gate to your left is chained but open) On to the main path, turn right and follow the main path through the park down to the town. Most pubs and some shops are dog friendly, we came across one pub, the crown who welcome dogs, when we were there they were given their own dog bowl with water plus some doggy treats. For us a good selection of ales and the food was very reasonable. (well worth a visit and highly recommended) the other pub we would recommend is the fleece, situated in the town market square, here you will find the staff are very dog friendly, they will give you dog a blanket for your dog to lay on if requested. The food is excellent and the deco first class. The town itself has a lot to offer, with plenty to see and do. We went with friends who also have a camper plus dog, overall well worth a visit. The manageress in the Crown was more than helpful finding us a taxi to take us back to the site on our final night with our dogs (legs by now were starting to buckle) Overall, it’s a great camp site, lovely town with some great people who make you very welcome. We plan to return when the weather is a bit warmer to take full advantage of all the other facilities available on site that was on this visit covered in snow.
