Summer Holidays part 2

This story happened on: 14/08/2014

Route planned, A605 should get us there, no problem. Got off the roundabout saw A605 after a while looked at the sat nav map (no we hadn’t set her) and saw we were on the A1139, wrong road, I get the blame as I had the map, no worries take a few right turns should get us there, kept seeing the sign for A605 but couldn’t get there. After a few sharp unprintable words had been said decided to let Sally Sat Nav to the navigating. Eventually arrived and found a lovely corner pitch. After doing the necessary duties we sat outside to catch the evening sun. Had a lovely chat with the neighbours who loved our dog. Joe, the dog, meet a lovely Dalmatian.  Took a walk to the Golf Club and had a meal and drinks outside.

Following day brought the rain, never mind we have raincoats and took ourselves off the park. Had tea and cake at the lakeside café which was very nice. As we headed back this greyhound type dog comes bounding up to our dog snarling and growling, thank god he was muzzled, gave the owner a mouthful and got one back. The incident shook me up.  Later a shopping trip was needed, we wanted Tesco’s but ended up in Morrison’s, too many roundabouts. Luckily Sally got us back.

Third day gave us bright sunshine, what a difference from the day before.  We decided to visit Lincoln Cathedral, with a detour to see RAF Cranwell on the way. Arrived in Lincoln to scorching sunshine which did not help the climb to the Cathedral, but it was worth it. The building is too beautiful for words. Whilst sat outside we saw a family from our home town we knew, they were as surprised as us to see each other.  After a lovely walk around the town and tea and cakes by the river it was time to head back.  As a treat we had chips from the mobile van on site and very nice they were too. A last walk for the dog in the park and time for bed.

Woke up to the sound of rain on the roof, another wet day. We had planned to visit Norfolk and the Broads, so with macs and a brolly we set off. Drove through flat countryside, different from home. Thankfully the rain stopped and felt hopeful for a lovely day. The plan was to visit one of the Broads and then Norwich. Arrived at one of the Broads which had a no dogs allowed sign, no good, couldn’t leave him in the car. By now it had started raining again, steadily getting worse to eventually a thunder storm, though we waited to see if it would clear we decided after half an hour that it was unlikely, so with heavy heart we headed back to Peterborough with the rain and thunder. Wanted to see the windmills, but the only one I saw was the Wind turbines. People say that it always rains in Wales, well England was giving it a run for its money.

The rest of our stay was spent sitting in the sun or dodging the showers, and to add insult to injury they were enjoying glorious weather back home with no rain.

The time came to pack up and leave from Blackshaw Moor site in Leek, hopefully the weather will improve.

Sunshine at home whilst it's raining where you are on your holiday - typical!! Isn't that always the way!! Sounds like you were able to still go out and see lots of sites and have a good time though. Thanks for sharing and here's hoping for some sunshine for you on your next trip. Smile
