Free Loan of Holiday Dog Tags

This story happened on: 10/01/2014

We run a Caravan Club CL in Shropshire, and whilst not suggesting that visitors remove their 'home address' dog tag, our experience is that it will probably have a home phone number, which isn't much help whilst away on holiday.

We offer visitors the free loan of a second 'Birch Hill CL' dog tag for the duration of their stay. Bright as they may be, dogs can't talk, so it has our address and phone number in case of emergency.

Some visitors also borrow our tags for their car / caravan keys.

As a dog tag is easily forgotten on departure, we ask a small refundable deposit for each tag.

What a brilliant idea. We have our mobile phone number on Holly's Tag.

A lot of people do this, but the loan of a Birch Hill CL dog tag is also useful in case our guests are out of mobile phone range (or have a flat phone battery) when their dog is found.

If you dog is micro-chipped, it is worth checking that the micro-chip company's database has your current mobile number.  If you are away on caravan holiday, there is no point in the micro-chip company ringing your home address.  People do move house / change their mobile phone numbers and this sort of detail can be over-looked.

This is one of the ways that we try to make sure that our guests are safe and comfortable.

What a fabulous idea, I'd take it up if we ever had to take our sons dog away again, heres hoping we are given the opportunity  :-).  I have say that reading reviews and chat about your site it has been added to our 'to do list'.

What a really thoughtful idea, very well done to Ian Kelly at Birch Hill. We have an Engish Setter who given the chance will run. We do have a number of systems in place to recover him but one more would be very useful for our peace of mind. A charge to recover costs would be acceptable to me, especially as the benefit is so apparent. Is this something other dog friendly sites could take up?
