Trip to EU 2

Our trip is now well and truly under way. Having visited Reims and Laon and staying in Guignicourt which may I add was a tad expensive for this time of year, I thought.

I know they have done a lot of improvements but this time of the year I doubt the pool gets much use or the bar/snack bar, etc. So we have moved on to visit the Alsace region and first stopped in Molsheim not to far from Strasbourg. The town itself is a delight to walk around and is on the Alsace wine trail. its also the place the first Bugatti car was built. We were surprised to see storks flying around the town and nests on the rooftops of houses. To us this was a bit of a thrill, not being used to seeing these birds in their own environment.

We visited Strasbourg with its very old buildings typical of the region. The cathedral is stunning with lots of detail on the facade and well worth a visit.

We have now moved on to Eguisheim an ACSI site just south of Colmar and again on the Alsace wine trail. This is a little jewel of a place and a must seen. The village dates back to I don’t know when and is built in the round. The buildings are stunning to see and the place gives you a sense of what it must have been like to live in that era. Today our last day here we decided to do one of the wine trail walks through the vineyards. The walk took about one and a half hours to complete and was very informative with plaques with descriptions of different grapes and wines on the way round. It helped that the weather was lovely and not a cloud in the sky.  Sorry for being a bit vague with my descriptions, I’m not much of a historian or wine buff but do like what I see and taste.

Tomorrow Friday 22nd April we again move on, this time into Germany to Schluchsee just east of Freiburg. It has been recommended by a friend so we’ll have to wait and see.

Looking forward to our next visit and will do my best to do a bit better with my next post.

ROTHAUS near SCHLUCHSEE Black Forest

Friday 2nd April. We travelled over from Eguisheim to Rothaus in the black forrest today. Not to long a journey but a fair haul over the mountains and some great views on route. The site is in the ACSI book and not far from Schluchsee. We tried to get in at the lakeside site in Schluchsee but it was lunchtime (3 hours!) and all was closed except the restaurant. Went and asked the guy in the restaurant if we could enter the site and pitch up as the gates were open but got a few grunts and a nein from him in not to friendly manner so that got my back up straight away. Walked out and Jan suggested we move on further up the road to Rothaus.

Got there and the lady on reception couldn't be more helpful. So we decided to stay there and after some lunch went for a tour round the area in the car, traveling round the lake at Schluchsee and stopping for some provisions. When we got back to the caravan i went to reception to place my order for bread the following day and there was a machine just outside the site entrance picking up tree trunks and eating them up and blowing chippings into a trailer. The trailer was then carting them off up the road to the local brewery to use for heating. all very interesting to watch but being a joiner by trade i thought they could be put to better use. Still there is plenty of them here and i was told they were old trees and unsafe by the side of the road. After dinner we went for a short walk from the campsite to admire the surroundings which are a mixture of forest and lovely green pastures. The cattle look as if they are still in the sheds as the weather, whilst quite pleasant during the day becomes quite chilly in the evenings. All the plants look as if they are a few weeks behind ours at home so Winter must go on well into April and possibly beyond. I think I've rattled on enough now so I’ll log off and put something together after tomorrow.

Auf Wiedersehen for now

I can't follow the link to your photo so can't make it live. Might I suggest that you add photos when you submit the story where it says add photos. All you have to do is to resize to a reasonable size, perhaps 1500x1000 or similar and save them into a folder thats easy to reach or even the desktop and you can load them directly into your story. Photographs are useful to break up the text.

Thanks for your comments both. Sorry David I'm new to this gamesome learning as I go. I tried to copy and paste my photo but it put the link in instead so I'll try again.

Thanks again

Unfortunately the forum is not clever enough to allow copy and paste, if only!!! When you next post try the method I have suggested above which is much easier and puts the photos at the top of the stories, see my story below yours as an example. It might depend on you platform, is it a laptop or a tablet? Anyway you are meant to be enjoyng your trip which looks interesting so far.
