problem with motor mover "No problem"

This story happened on: 29/04/2013

We have just returned from our first outing of the year. We went to the Bridlington site just up the road from where we live.  We like to start with somewhere close to home so we can sort out any problems which may have developed over the winter layup. I started by bringing the van home from where we store it and gave it a major clean and wax whilst it was on the drive, to get it in showroom condition to start the season. I made sure that anything that should move did move and anything that should not move did not etc. and was pleased to find no surprises. Everything was in working order.  The van is a swift 2008 650 twin axle and when connected to my VW Touereg  I cannot pull off the drive without wiping out the front wall of my neighbour living opposite or my own front wall or possibly both. Manually pushing and pulling is not an option with a van this size so I simply park on the road and manoeuvre the caravan onto the ball hitch using the motor mover (It’s dead simple). When I brought the van home I had put it onto the drive using the mover so I did not envisage any problems when we set off on the Saturday morning. I put the Touereg  into position and set up the motor mover only to find it was moving extremely slow and would not turn. I suspected a flat battery but after connecting up an additional battery deduced it was something more critical. Fortunately May (The OH) noticed that one of the motors was not turning and acting as a break. (It appeared to be seized solid). I released one set of motors and was able to manoeuvre the van into position with the remaining two motors. As we were now running a bit late and we had arranged to meet the brother in law on site we got on our way. I don’t have much problem with reversing so I reversed it into position onto its pitch. When I bought the van the first thing I bought for it was the motor mover for all the reasons mentioned above. At around £1500 I researched nearly every mover on the market in depth and in the end opted for the Power Touch for the 5 year no quibble warrantee with the backup of trained engineers on call. The chap who fitted the mover assured me that he was one of their engineers and the warrantee is second to none. He also pointed out that some offer a 5 year guarantee which is not the same thing. We have had the mover nearly four years and we have never had a problem with the exception of a flat battery in the remote. So now was the time to put the warrantee to the test. I rang the number on the front of the leaflet at about 13:00 on a Saturday afternoon expecting to get an answer machine with a press two now if you want etc. Not a bit of it, a human voice answered “Powertouch how can I help”. After a brief explanation of the problem he was able to talk me through a simple test which revealed a poor connection on one of the wires. Within a few minutes it was working as good as ever. He assured me if it happens again give them a call and they will send the engineer out. I was able to enjoy the rest of the weekend without a second thought about the mover. I used it to hitch up on the Monday morning and again to position it on the storage site. So if you are looking at motor movers and wondering if the Power Touch warrantee is all it’s supposed to be take it from a satisfied customer. “It is”

We enjoyed our weekend break at the Bridlington site although at one point I did contemplate buying a dog as I assumed  it was compulsory to have one on site. All the dogs were quiet as was the site in general. It was very enjoyable listening to radio 2 whilst having a hot shower in the pristine shower blocks. We visited Danes Dyke and the BSPB Bempton cliffs bird reserve to see the Gannets nesting. I would have put some pictures up for you to look at but I felt a bit embarrassed getting the digital camera out. When it comes to lenses for cameras and bird watching it would appear size does matter. Laughing

If quality after sales care is what you want then look no further than power touch. On Monday night checking my caravan tyre pressures prior to a trip to France on Friday I noticed my rollers seemed to be close to the tyre when not engaged. The next day, wenesday I emailed my concern to powertouch and asking how to  check and if necessary adjust the rollers. I told powertouch I was off to France on Friday. later Wednesday morning a powertouch engineer turned up and checked out my mover and gave it a clean bill of health. Brilliant service wot would recommend this product to anyone it's easy to use shifts my van with ease and the after sales are brilliant.
