Good Base to visit Saint-Emilion

We spent a week here in early July this year. The site was tidy and clean, the staff were pleasant and helpful and the pool was good. We had a lakeside pitch that was thankfully fenced off from the lake as our springer spaniel would have loved to play with all the ducks that regularly came calling. The lake water is very smelly if your dog goes in so avoid this if possible. Despite being told that the shop sold bread and croisants every morning and there was no ordering system as they had plenty, bread was available but unless you were ther at 0800 forget croisants as they quickly sold out. Our pitch was a reasonable size but was made difficult by the large concrete electric hook-up point shared by 3 pitches which was in a difficult position. However, the main issue was a large tree growing near the middle of the pitch that made manoeuvering and siting our 7m caravan difficult. This was compounded by the small round seeds that constantly fell from the tree and sounded like stones hitting the roof all night! When we came to leave we found that both the caravan and awning were covered in a sticky sap type residue which necessitated a complete scrub of the caravan and awning on our return home. Despite this, it was good to return to visit Saint-Emilion again and we found a large lake, that is a rowing course with a swimming beach, parking and good walks the other side of Libourne. In summary, nice site with a good pool that is probably quite noisy in high season, but DON'T accept a pitch right under the trees!
