We have been very lucky to have been able to choose a spacious caravan pitch right by the river with lovely views of ducks and cruise ships passing by. We paid an extra 4 euros a night for on pitch water and drainage. Why does the Club not advertise these and allow you to book them? We would have been less delighted if we’d been pitched 4 or 5 rows back in an orderly but undefined grid of mainly motorhome pitches. This might explain the variable reviews that this site gets. Those are ok for a stopover as are the dedicated motorhome pitches by the entrance. Information on access from either the Club or the site website is dangerously lacking. Satnav will try and take you under a railway bridge where the road is so steep you’ll probably ground a caravan. You need to go under the next bridge and approach from the east along a very narrow lane with passing places. Follow signs for Wasserschutz Polizei, take a deep breath then turn right along Kastenienallee. Also not explicit is that the vehicle ferry from Bingen is quite big enough for caravans. No opening times for anything on either website. Reception closes from 11am until 1:15pm so avoid queuing at the entrance. Everything else is great. Beautiful clean washrooms, friendly family owners. Unfortunately the recent floods have closed the next door swimming pool. We are watching the clean up progressing as the weather warms up! Easy walk into town along the river. Very popular with cruise ships. Both day trip operators run the same choice of river trips. Lidl and Aldi 5 minutes away but booze choice poor in both. Splash out and buy a nice Riesling from the campsite kiosk for only 8 euros. Nearby castles are up steep hills from the riverside and mainly 19th century reconstructions.
