Hi all, we stayed at Playa Joyel for five weeks this year and yet again found it virtually the perfect combination for families or couples, it has a comprehensive array of facilities (all of which work and are very well maintained) the toilets and showers are kept impeccability clean and never close like ours do over here, the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, with very good campsite security covering all access points to the site from both the road and beach, i would unreservedly recommend this site to all CC & C&CC members, Chris & Sue (Birmingham)
Small pitches
We stayed here as a night stop after arriving in Santander from Plymouth in mid-June. There were plenty of pitches to choose from, but they are all a bit small especially if you have a larger outfit - the twin axle next to us really didn't fit on the pitch, the towbar was level with the kerb and the rear end stuck on to the pitch behind! Also beware of the kerbs on each pitch, on our pitch it was nearly 2 inches high which challenged the mover.
Having said that, the cleanliness of the whole site is exceptional, the shower blocks were spotless and the showers them selves were roomy with plenty of water and adjustable temperatures.
The beach is lovely, and at the time we were there, it wasn't busy.

Great for families and beach but town disappointing
We visited in early July 2016. The facilities are good on the whole, especially the sports areas, but the site is very large and I think it should be emphasised in the Caravan Club literature that it is geared to families with children - I think we were practically the only couple there without children and it was pretty noisy up to midnight. The restaurant was really a fast-food style outlet and very noisy and the staff were somewhat vague about details such as where the Noja land train runs from and where we could get the bus. Noja itself is disappointing - unattractive and sprawling but it's worth taking the bus to Laredo which does have an interesting old town to visit. We managed to get a pitch on the edge, near the gate to the (wonderful) beach, which was a relief as we would not have enjoyed being stuck in the middle of such a huge site.

1st Time in Spain with the CC
Why we have never been here before via the Bilbao route will always be a mystery (saving on time/fuel/tolls and the stress of 100s miles through France). 45 mins from the ferry and the holiday begins. The town has more than enough to keep you fed and watered and has a 8-10 week busy season. The beaches are superb, surfing, rock pools, swimming and wave jumping. There are several busy all-spanish areas as you enter the site but once further in the pitches are larger and quieter and yes you do have a longer leg stretch to the showers but they are spotless with the team of cleaners who work tirelessly. The site is geared up for the peak weeks with great pools, great shop and bar/restaurant and a table of events. Friendly staff on-site and most definitely a Spanish feel to the site and the area rather than a French site 75% Brits and feeling like home. If you want great campsite thats safe, great beaches, good food, several nearby villages (Santona -fishing port), if the weather changes then Bilbao & Santander are a lifesaver to explore then try it !!! Just back from 2 weeks which was not enough as always.....

Good location minor issue with facilites
The site is well located from Santander as our first stop in Spain. Upon arrival we were told at the reception that some of the facility blocks were not open (which I see a previous reviewer has commented on). Then we were warned by another holidaymaker that there are some small pitches and that it was very noisy, so a pitch further back may be quieter.
We found a pitch close to one of the closed facility blocks and just fitted our motorhome in, with not much room to spare, but enough.
It wasn't as noisy as we had been warned, but was a bit of a trek to the facilities.
The beach, which is accessed from one of two gates from the site is beautiful. The town of Noja doesn't have a lot to offer, but enough for what we needed.
OK, but, Beware of Site Fees for Extra Days
We stayed here last September 2015, and our review is above. This additional review covers our experience in very early July 2016.
We have no reason to change our review of the actual site which is good. We chose to use this site before travelling back to UK on the Santander Plymouth ferry and arrived a day early through choice and had to pay for one extra night. Having paid £26.64 a night through the Cararvan Club for four nights, our early arrival cost us an astonishing EUR 37.30, made up of EUR20 for the pitch, EUR13 for two adults and EUR4.30 for a six amp hook up.
We think this is VERY expensive.
Good but.....
We stayed at Playa Joyel from 29th May to 16th June.
The site is right on a stunning beach and its position cannot be faulted but other things were not so good.
On arrival it seemed to be a lively site but we found out that this was due to it being a weekend and during the week it was very quiet, as was the town with almost all the bars and restaurants closed except at weekends.
The facilities are very clean but on arrival were were informed that there was only one toilet block open and it was not easy to get a decent pitch that was a reasonable distance form the facilities due to the large numbers of seasonal pitches.
We would recommend the site but with the caveat that outside of July/August you may get limited facilities and not a great choice of pitches.
lovely camp and location
Very good site with direct access onto a large sandy beach. Pitch sizes reasonable and very good facilities. We stayed in June when site was about half full. Plenty of children especially at the weekend so fair bit of noise in evening although quiet by mid- night and through the night. Site restaurant has limited menu but town is easy walk with plenty of bars and restaurants.

A gem
We didn't intend to stay here but due to technical problems Brittany Ferries cancelled the ferry. We stayed 2 nights 10th & 11th May. It is a lovely site with full facilities including hairdresser, shop, swimming pool and large flat pitches. A Summer site with a lot of Seasonal pitches near to the beach taken. Direct access to a lovely large sandy beach in a delightful bay. Restaurant offer a reasonable limited menu. Showers clean and bright. Probably a site to avoid in high season if you're looking for peace and quiet but we would definitely use it again - about 44Km from Santander.
Great two night stay in April
Stayed here third week in April for two nights. Reception very friendly and helpful. A lovely site with direct access to beautiful sandy beach and long coastal walk. Good sized level pitches and excellent shower/toilet facilities, always clean. Good leisure facilities although pool not open in low season. Easy access to town but very quite and many of the places closed up. A summer season resort. However it suited us to have peace and quiet and some good walking.
