Faded Glory

First stop on a two week tour in June 2024 and we stayed 3 nights. Easy to get to, no problems on that front - I did read somewhere that the access road was tight?! They’ve clearly never need to Cornwall. The first thing the hits you is how very nineties it is. You would probably see this place in series 3 of Eurotrash. Faded and past its prime is the best way to describe it. Warning - it looks nothing like the pictures. There is no “beach”. There is a coastal wall with a 2m deep bit of sand in some places. The town of Arradon is a half hour walk, which is fine - and even better, carry on for 10 minutes and there is a hypermarche! Arradon is also well served by buses, and we caught one into Vannes on the second day, no problem. Ok - facilities. Toilets had no soap, no handgel and no toilet seats. They were also VERY shallow, meaning you’re close to the water, which is just unpleasant. Showers were fine - that’s the best I can say. Hot. All in all however, you felt slightly dirty coming out of the facilities, and personally I didn’t look forward to using them. The onsite shop is rudimentary, but you can order bread in the morning. The staff were friendly and approachable. REMEMBER - reception is closed between 12:30 and 14:30. You show up then, expect a wait. That happened to a few people while we were staying. Pitches are grass, (never a good thing if raining) and frustratingly, not all of them have an electric hook up, so you need to find the closest one and hope you have a long enough cable. It was quiet, which is good. A few other English were staying, but mostly French. The site did feel a little cramped did our liking. Is it worthy of inclusion to the CAMC? Difficult to say. The British sites are of such a high standard, that coming here was a bit of a shock, I won’t lie. But I also appreciate that France has a far greater history when it comes to camping parks than us, so they will be older and perhaps a bit shabby in places. So not really what we were expecting, but not terrible. I guess over the next few weeks we have to manage our expectations…

September Sunshine

As part of a 'Combined Deal' - two campsites and ferry crossings as advertised in Club magazine my wife and I stayed for a week in our motorhome at Penboch. It was after la rentrée so there were few kids and some facilities were closed or closing whilst we were there. This did not bother us. We had a quiet pitch with ample space and close connection/water. It was close to the perimeter so more of a walk to the showers/pool etc. but easy access to the coast - and what a coast it is! There are coast paths all around the Gulf with some tidal diversions and sunrise and sunsets are spectacular. The area has extensive shell fisheries - and you can sample oysters fresh from the sea (or collect them and razorshells yourself). We had electric bikes and there are excellent local routes with little traffic. Vannes is close and a base for boat tours etc. but the smaller town of Arradon is closer and delightful. The famous megalithic sites of Carnac and Locmariaquer are nearby but we had visited those before. My wife enjoys painting and I enjoy wildlife photography so this site was perfect for our needs. Indoor pool with jacuzzi was excellent after our walks and rides. In UK we generally stay on CL sites so this was large by our standards but friendly and welcoming. Thoroughly enjoyed it! A bientôt

July 2019 - full and honest review

I wanted to leave a review after reading so many contrasting ones about this site. We are a family of 5, 2 adults, a 7 and two five year olds. We decided to pitch in the tree covered area to the right of the site to get shade as it was so hot when we arrived it was a good size pitch and pleasant, mainly tents in this area. You need to make sure you have a long electric cable 25m ideally for some pitches. The main pitch area did seem very cramped and little shade and I’m glad we asked to move it suited us better. I think you could do with a motor mover in the main area. The staff and reception area are very good. The bar is basic, hot and cold drinks and ice creams. There is no food offered except takeaway vans that come every night 5-10pm offering food such as roast chickens, pizza and curry on one night we didn’t use them. The pool is good area, there is indoor and outdoor pools, slides which are quite good, and a toddler area open 10-7 each day. The toilets and showers in our pitch area were not spotless but they were clean and always had paper available. There are a few cracks in the walls and plenty of cobwebs about but the parts you are actually using are clean. They have WiFi but it’s to pay for and only available for one devise unless you buy a family package. We didn’t bother so didn’t notice the price. There is a football/basket ball pitch which makes the site noisy until 11pm when the lights go out and there are many French guys playing boules until late as well so lively but interesting in the evening. There is also a playground suitable for up to about 10-11 years and ping pong tables. There is a bouncy castle but it’s in a covered area which makes it as hot as hell if it’s anything over 22 degrees! The walk to the beach is only about 3 minutes and it’s a lovely shore line beach accommodating maybe only 40-50 people when the tide is out, there is a toilet and shower but is very basic. It’s a lovely place to spend the day or especially evening after dinner, lots of the locals come down for a swim late on. We really enjoyed our stay and I would consider going back mainly due to the tree covered pitch, the beach and the slides for the kids. It’s also well placed for visiting Vannes and the coast line and it’s islands. If you want 5 star, spotless high functioning site with plenty of like minded British folk you are not going to get this here. P.S the reception closes 12.30-2.30 so don’t arrive then like most people seem to and sit and wait in their cars looking irritated.

Only managed 1 night of a 5 night stay

The site is rather run down. While the plots are reasonable size the site as a whole feels cramped. Toilet blocks, etc could do with a deep clean. We were attracted by the closeness to the beach but quite far to walk along a narrow path and a hassle to get our kayaks there. We weren’t very impressed with the small beach area. Swimming pool looks a lot better in the photos than it actually is.

Smashing site.

Well after reading some of the reviews both on the club site and on Tripadvisor we were to be honest a little concerned before we even arrived and even contemplated changing our booking. How wrong would we have been? We arrived around 12.00pm and were welcomed by Paul one of the reception staff. The booking in process was both simple and slick and he directed us to a reasonably level well sized serviced pitch at the bottom left hand side of the site. Quiet time on the site was between 11pm and 7am and to be honest it was quiet with the exception of the eve of Bastille Day which was a little noisy but we certainly weren't kept awake all night. The facilities in general were kept clean by the campsite staff. One thing they could improve on however is providing soap and a hand dryer in the toilets. This was sadly lacking. All in all we had a great 7 days here and if we are back in the area we would certainly go back again.

Found the site very cramped - no open space -charged for dog but did not even supply waste bins. Saturday night kept awake by a large noisy group until after 1am Showers ok if you kept one hand pressing button Loos barrack style no seats some no loo roll no soap to wash hands. But outdoor pool ok indoor very small Nice walk around the bay but too far to walk go to Arradon Vannes well worth a visit but will not return to this site

Open but Closed in May

We found this site to be very tidy and clean - which makes us happy - facilities were limited, as everything was closed except the small indoor pool - bike rides where good and nice walks along the sea front. I have no idea what it would be like in high season but in mid May all was peaceful and tidy.very good.

We enjoyed the site but had difficulty with hooking up the electric . Our standard cable was not long enough and we needed an adaptor. All speedily resolved by the helpful staff

Disappointing site

We had booked for 11 nights in early September, but only stayed for 2 nights. The toilet blocks are in need of a deep clean and an update. The indoor pool is very small, with two families using the pool, there was no room to swim. The outdoor pool however, is a good size for the site. We had booked an LP pitch, we were given 2 pitches together, which also had a tree in the middle of the pitch, we used all of our 20 leveling blocks to get the caravan level due to severe sloping. On our first night we were woken with people laughing and swearing loudly from 2-4am, it sounded as though it was coming from the entrance towards the beach, which we were pitched near. The second night was the same... but with music in the distant as well. Maneuvering on site with a twin axle was difficult, entrances are really tight and hedging is overgrown. We found the site not to be the 'top class facilities' we had expected from the brochure and our research. We therefore, moved to another site 8 miles away which was excellent.

Well located great pool

We stayed here mid/late August 2016. Site was busy but never felt overfull. Facilities spotlessly clean. Pool complex great and again kept spotless. Some pitches are tight but no more so than on most sites we have stayed on in France. Great location just up footpath to path around Gulf of Morbihan. Beaches nearby at low tide - some sand higher up the beach but also gritty and more muddy towards the sea. No beach at high tide. No dogs allowed on main beaches but saw many dogs on beaches and in sea on smaller beaches between the site and the town. Gulf waters great for kids as always calm and gently shelving into the water. Canoes available on site. Lots of places to visit around. Arradon pleasant town, approx 1.3miles from site by road. Slightly further via coastal path. Would recommend this site.
