Disappointing

Stayed in our motorhome for 4 nights in June 2024. Very big site with lots of statics. No atmosphere. No perimeter fence so anyone could come and go. Lots of noise late into the night - 1am. Not always children, most inconsiderate adults. Very well stocked shop onsite and nice staff.

NOT motorhome friendly

This site is NOT motorhome friendly. There was hardly any information given when booking in, even basic info like the location of the taps for fresh water, grey water drainage & chemical toilet drainage. We were just given a map which needed a magnifying glass to read even with reading glasses due to the minute writing. On the back was a large advert. This was wasted space where you could put the locations and times of the office, shop, restaurant & gate openings. They could have informed us of the free bus to the town that we did not know about and if we could hire any sports equipment to use on their site. There were lots of low branches getting to your pitch which I, and other motorhome drivers, had to get out and break the branches off to get through. The pitch I was given had huge ruts on it and a fellow camper stated that he was on that pitch last night & had to be pulled out that morning! So if they knew that there was a problem with the pitch that morning WHY give it to me at midday! We complained about this and they gave me a few other pitches to choose from. The nearest toilet/shower block was terrible and was open to the elements. The shower water was either cold or freezing cold, no matter what temperature was set, at anytime of the day. We went to another toilet/shower block near the cabins and these were great but still no soap like all the others! You had to be very careful driving around the grey water waste as the road was very narrow and there was a tree at an angle that would hit the roof of a motorhome if you weren't. There is a walk near the edge of the lake but once again it had several low branches & trees which we, and others, had to break to get through. They allow dogs for quite an expensive fee €5 per night but throughout our stay we could not find a single dog poo bin on site. The only bins were behind the reception area which was quite a walk. This encourages people NOT to pick it up(as if they need more encouragement). This site might be good if you booked a cabin but not for motorhomes, we felt like second class citizens.

Excellent for families

Stayed here for last two weeks of July 2022. Lake was warm and refreshing any time of day, excellent for paddleboarding and other water sports. The swimming pool was also very good although could be a bit crowded at times. Plenty of activities and evening entertainment to keep everyone busy should they wish. The pitches are of a good size with electric and water available on certain pitches. We were fortunate to have sunny and shaded areas on our pitch, although some have no shade others no sun due to trees. The pitches aren't to the standard of club sites as nature has the upper hand! Had i known i would have packed some secateurs to cut back some shrubs and brambles. Make sure you download the campsites app before you go as it will save you time and hassle. Free bus service to Leon and the excellent beach. I would definitely return to this campsite again.

Loved the warm lake!

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of August and it was a delight. There were, initially, a few problems with the 3amp then the 6amp - until finally we bought the 10 amp - which didn't cost that much more. We had a standard pitch fairly near the lake. It was sandyish with tall hedges on 3 sides. The shade is a must. I pitied people who were on corner plots; the sun looked relentless. This site has a lot of great extras: the freshwater lake is warm and clean to swim in - even though it looked a bit brown. The little beach was fairly relaxing, even with quite a lot of kids around. The site also has a little farm bit with poultry and rabbits living in a large enclosure together and big paddocks for the horses and cows - who seemed to be well cared for. The swimming pool was a slightly horrific experience - with too many people and some riotous dive bombing. The lake was much better to swim in! The sea is a fairly decent bike ride away. we gave up because it was super hot and there were big hills towards the end. It was easier to take the car (good parking). Showers and toilets were clean and plentiful. All in all, I really liked this site and wished we could have stayed for longer!

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are pleased you enjoyed your time at this site. The site owners have advised that a brand new car park has been built so that on arrival you have somewhere to park before going to reception
