Disappointed

On arrival we were welcomed by friendly staff although it was not obvious were the reception was located in relation to the site, we were also instructed to find our own pitch! The fob key for the amenities was also odd as only one person could use it at a time! The site itself was a bit untidy and what seemed to be very disorganized. The dish washing facilities were very dirty all the time we were there and unusable we did report this to reception. On the up side location was great for Bruges and the near by town of Jabbeke was lovely.

Location superb

We stayed here the last weekend in February, sunny weather and dry.... We used the site as a base for a day on the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad cycle race and a day in Ostend. We used the campervan on site and there was obviously plenty of choice on the camping field. Electrics were adequate at 10 amps, showers and hot water was obtained using the smart key (€ 25 deposit and €5 credit) We used hot from the kettle and cold from the sinks & used the credit for showers. Clearly a problem for some but not for us. Jabbeke is a nice small town, some may find the road a little noisy and I guess the site will be noisy in the summer too in the hoilday's, it is similar to Dutch sites we have visited. Easy road links to anywhere in Belgium which is useful and you can cycle to Bruges too.   Aldi in the town and Fuel too as well as bars and restaurants. Market is on Fridays. Will be back next year for the same Race and probably Easter for the E3 race too. 50 mins from Dunkirk and you can top up with French goodies from the Intermarche in Gravelines before getting the ferry.

Its all about the location

This site has one major feature and that's its location very close to Bruges. The site is level and split up by low level hedges. Washroom facilities are paid for with a 'smart key' including showers and hot washing up water. It also doubles as your barrier key. Great until one person wants a shower, one wants to wash up and a third wants to pop down the supermarket - you can only do one thing at once! However 10a electric is adequate even in the cold February weather. Off season the site is quiet but previous experience at this site tells us that it is quite noisy and lively in the high season - not a place for peace and quiet in the holiday season. Short but not cheap bus ride takes you into the heart of Bruges from Jabbeke. Cost over 30 euros for 4 people (return ticket). If cost is an issue drive into town and park in centraal car park (station). This is a flat rate cost for the day and very reasonable but does involve a quite pleasant 15 mins or so walk to the town. Very pretty town and well worth a day trip. The campsite is adequate but not perfect, it lacks character and can be noisy in the summer but don't be put off - save £££s by using your vans shower and hot water, make the best of a mediocre site and visit Bruges as it is a place of beauty. We have stayed here 3 times and would definitely stay here again - more for the location than the campsite.

Ideal for Bruges Xmas Markets

Just had four days at the site at the beginning of December 2015. The site was quiet due to only a handful of tourers on site. The site looked a little rundown, bins not emptied, some toilets urinals not automatically flushing, hence urine in there all weekend. Wi-Fi was not free as stated on the Caravan Club page, 5 euros for 5 hours. As other people have stated it is an ideal place to be based to see the the surrounding area. We will still use the sight for short stay overs.

Good location for Bruges

Good location for visiting Bruges, about 10kms from site.   Very busy site - arrived on a bank holiday with flea market and funfair within immediate vicinity of the site - very hectic trying to manoeuvre a caravan through the crowds!.   Facilities very clean but as mentioned, have to pay for hot water in showers and 25 Euros deposit on barrier key.  Site within walking distance of lake - swimming and water sports.

Much improved site

We stayed here for a week on our travels south. This site has been greatly improved since we stayed here some 6 years ago. The pitches were well maintained, water and waste within easy access - in the corner of our pitch. The toilet block had been refurbished, to a good standard and despite previous review are cleaned daily. The problem occurs with those who use them. The showers and hot water are expensive. Very convenient for Brugge, Ostend and Ypes. Will be staying there again.

Very unpleasant

Seems to be largely occupied by permanent residents.  The 'tavern' was full of very strange people and the noise from it (music and shouting) late at night was unacceptable.  And at 7.30 in the morning it was a full-on construction site right next to our motorhome - a warning would have been appreciated! We certainly would never stay there again under any circumstances.  Surprised it is recommended by the Caravan Club, would be interested to know on what basis!

Read reviews before booking

Having booked to attend a conference in Brussels, we stayed a week. You hear a constant noise from the motorways as you are just off the E40/E10 junction. Having booked for June the reception for the camping area was not open, but should open for the July/August period. Cleanliness of the toilet blocks was poor, not cleaned on a daily basis and was beginning to look very dated with the due to the lack of maintenance. Reception staff were not very good at understanding English English more used to American English. On booking in no rubbish bags were issued. On reporting of problems nothing happened. Sites for Belgium very limited. Rule book does not apply to Site users from Belgium, more than two dogs on many vans. As a one night stop I would recommend, but a longer period no.
