3 Night Stay

We stayed for 3 nights and overall the site was excellent. The water in the shower fluctuated but that would be my only negative comment regarding the site. The pitches booked through the caravan club were large, shaded and had water/waste/electric connection. The site is large but the layout over may areas plus trees makes your own area seem individual. Washing machines were the standard 6 Euro and you could purchase water to fill your own bottles from a machine. The onsite shop was well stocked and fairly priced. You need transport, nothing is in walking distance outside of the campsite. We were travelling with another couple but the campsite had not put us next to/near each other. When I asked at reception if this could be altered they said 'no, you booked with the caravan club you cannot change anything'. Be aware if you are travelling with others, you may wish to book directly to get pitches next to each other. Other pitches were available but there was no way the campsite was going to move us.

Lovely Lake Garda Site

We stayed here for 10 days, arriving early May. Getting to the lane into the site needs a bit of care before the site entrance opens up by reception. The pitch offered to us was well shaded, but there are others with less shade elsewhere on site if preferred. Facilities were exceptionally good. As well as a very good pool complex (including an outdoor heated pool), there is a lakeside beach by the site restaurant. There is even a gelateria on site. The shop is well stocked and only a little pricier than the local shops. Many people (most of whom were German) appear to hardly go off-site during their stay. There is much to do in the surrounding area, to suit all tastes. There is a daily free shuttle bus from the site to local villages. We found some lovely walks, and regretted not having taken our bicycles with us; e-bikes are available for hire on site (they are probably a better option in any case). Althought there are many cabins on site, they are in their own discrete areas. Overall, we loved this place and will definitely make the significant effort to return.

Fabulous site, no “walkable” other destinations.

A fabulously clean, well run site (great staff). Some very large pitches. Super shower/wc/wash basin/laundry/dog wash/pot wash areas. A reasonably priced on site shop…carbonated/still water dispenser/vending machine to top up bottles (20cents/litre) or use the central drinking water (Camping) points. The lake side restaurant or bar/take away was fairly priced & great food. Both pools are excellent, the beach; yes it’s stoney but this is a lake…If there is a downside it’s the lack of close by resort/villages. Yes Portese is walkable (more like 45min+ to the ferry), a pretty little harbour & a few restaurants. The ferry boat network extensive. Otherwise a really good site. A day trip to Venice can easily be achieved. I’d definitely recommend or stay in the future but would be knowledgeable that I’d need to drive/cycle more to get about the local area.

One of the best sites on Garda

Having been to many sites on Garda, both east and west, this is one of the best. This year we had a motorhome pitch and it was superb. Portese is a 30 minute walk away from where you can catch the boat to all the other main towns, Malcesine, limone etc. What is good: Lovely pool area Very good wash blocks Good restaurant Good mini market What’s not so good: No good if you want the beach, it’s very rocky with no sand. As previously mentioned, prime positions by the lake are now taken up by permanent ‘cabins’ but that didn’t worry us at all, and I fully understand why you would do that. I often go by the ‘feel’ of a site which is often hard to put into words, and this site has a good feel about it.

A great stay

We were here (2 adults + older kids) for 9 nights with our 8m twin axle on a premium pitch. We had plenty of room for me to spin the Caravan around + with full awning (dont worry there was no sides in it) & my 4x4. Food wise the restaurant/ bar (both good food) is there or Lidl and plenty of others down the road 10+ mins away & youll need that for water etc.. anyway. As has been said there is a huge on site shop & where you need to joining the Q at 8 am (breads, croissants etc..) Pools - there are 2 - go early or late to miss the busy hours & the Lake of course. I takes about 4 hrs to drive round. .Dont miss Sirminoni as the ice creams are magic & the main Desenzano market - its huge . Its also a good place to catch the train (book via treiitalia before you go for cheapness) to Venice & theres a free Car Park there. We tend to go a see whats out & about evey day so apart from eating & sleeping were not the much Steve

HUGE SITE

We stayed here in June for a week. Finding the site was ok, but the last bit is rather hairy as it is down very narrow roads, also I counted 20 roundabouts from the motorway. Reception staff very welcoming and we were issued with the mandatory bracelets to be worn at all times. We had booked a super pitch, which was very large with water and drainage. Facilities very clean and were regularly serviced. This is a massive site and it took us at least 3 days to find where the dog beach was. We ate in the restaurant which is overlooking the lake which was lovely, but you do need to book as it gets very busy. Wifi was very good, but not cheap. Unheated pool was lovely and OH and I used this a lot; we did try the heated pool and it was too hot! We did buy a couple of bits from the onsite shop which was moderately priced. The site is very keen on recycling and they actually had a bin monitor - we did actually give him some cold drinks to cool him down!

A nice holiday park

We have stayed on this site on numerous occasions but sadly it will be our last. Like many it has lots of mobile homes, log cabins etc all having the prime pitches. Water points for campers are few and far between. Staff not very helpful. Toilet blocks spotlessly clean but a long walk unless you pay for premium pitches. Good supermarket and restaurant on site. Our pitch was surrounded by noisey holiday homers. Incredibly expensive. There are much better and reasonably priced CAMPING sites in area.

A Good All Round Site

Stayed here from 31st May to 5th. June. Beautifully located site on the lakeside. Nice walks from the site. Excellent toilet and shower facilities, well maintained and clean. Good shop, catering mainly for German and Dutch customers. A German holiday started on June 3rd and the site went from 50% occupancy to 110% overnight. Excellent swimming pools with good entertainment for kids. The restaurant is really good with beautiful views over the lake. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We went on a boat trip to Isola de Garda and were shown around the island by a charming young woman who was a member of the Cavazza family who own and live on the island. They also own the Fornella site a much of the surrounding land and olive groves. We met this woman again in the evening at the restaurant on the site. Her husband runs the restaurant. Although this is an expensive site it is good value for the quality of the facilities especially compared to current CC prices.

Beautiful sunset from the restaurant

Very large site, we stayed in May 17, and only the main pool was open. The restaurant was open from 6:30pm onwards although the bar was open all day. Lots of tents, lodges, mobiles onsite too (like most Italian sites). The reception staff were very efficient, friendly, knowledgeable and gave us a "welcome" pack of leaflets. Plenty to do in the area. We arrived and were given a choice of pitches (it wasn't too busy as we were early season). We parked up on the left of the entrance as per signage, this allows you the freedom to take your time and pick a pitch. We plumped for one at the top of the site, as it had plenty of shade if not the views - even though there was a road alongside, we hardly heard any traffic. The other pitches were less shady, but did have views looking north towards the mountains. If you wanted a "lake-side" pitch you would have to book this separately as these were not "super" pitches and seems quite small and tight to get into. The lake location was just perfect, the site is fairly large and quite hilly. Washing machines were 6 euros and the other facilities were good too, although don't forget to take toilet paper before entering the cubicles. Plenty of recycling facilities. Our pitch was large, however we did need the motormover to manoeuvre due to hedges and trees. The restaurant was very reasonably priced, especially the house wine at 5 euros for a half litre. We ate here twice and thoroughly enjoyed it both times, although there seemed to be lots of waiters but only the waitress was actually taking orders etc. Maybe the others were bar staff. I had the "mixed meats" and this was the best meal of our trip. No need to order rolls/bread as they had plenty in the well stocked and friendly shop.

Well worth the journey

We returned from Fornella yesterday having had a very hot and relaxing 2 weeks there. We can only agree with the views already submitted, it is a very nice camp in a very nice part of the world. Definitely go for a super pitch if you can, some smaller ones are very small and you might struggle to get a caravan car and awning on them. The site info suggests beach access and the camp will tell you there are 3 of them, one for dogs. The main beach is quite small, a mix of pebbles, grass and weed. The other two are better described as shoreline, approx a metre or two wide. The lake is wonderful to swim in BUT take footwear as it is very stony, some having sharp edges. Of the two pools, the one with a snack bar shuts daily between 1pm and 3pm. Strange but true. On site shop has limited stock but there are supermarkets reasonably close by. We ate twice at the onsite restaurant which is ideally sited on the lakes edge, one meal good and one OK. Outside the camp turning to the right and a half mile walk is Baia Del Vento, a restaurant with beach, that is very good, reasonably priced and very friendly. Salo is worth a visit, beautiful, as is Pescheira and Verona. Take a boat out too 130 Euros for 4 hours at Fornella, we doubt you will regret it. We will go back to tour the more mountainous side of Garda, and we wouldn't hesitate to use Fornella again.
