Lovely stay, thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay here! It was the first time for us with the caravan abroad and we felt reassured with the gate system, which was locked at night with pedestrian access only. The pitches were a good size and it was very peaceful. The pitches around the lake had their own private fishing jetty, beautiful! If you want to fish though, bring your own bits and bobs. The owner was so polite and helpful, excellent service! The showers could be adjusted temperature-wise and were huge! Really great if you have little ones as bags of space. The toilet facilities were very clean and had been recently updated. There is a little corner shop nearby but we used the supermarket in Vouziers. We were mainly visiting WW1 sites, which meant a 40 minute drive through Peronne and over to near Albert for the majority of them. Great base for this! Thank you for a peaceful and relaxing stay!

Great site - fishing or not

We stayed here for 4 nights on the first leg of a month long tour of France, Germany and Switzerland. What a gem. The owners are so helpful and friendly. We had problems with our electric and between Red Pennant and the site owner it was resolved - our kettle was faulty and kept blowing the fuse. The bar and small cafe area was a great place to get together with other campers in the evening, it’s was a really friendly atmosphere. The lake and surrounding countryside is great for walking and cycling and it’s flat! We do fish but had no gear with us, so will be returning for a longer stay soon. I know lots use it as a one night on the route out or home but it really is worth a longer stay

Lovely site in a peaceful setting

We stayed for two nights in our motor home over the late May bank holiday. Pros - The site is in a lovely rural setting, situated in a small village. The city of Saint Quentin is an easy cycle ride away on the canal tow path (it's very flat and took us about 40 minutes to cycle in). - A bread van calls each morning bringing fresh bread and bakery products - Small, but well-stocked, village shop about a 5 minutes walk away. - Friendly, helpful, English-speaking site owner - Large private pitch - Clean facilities - Cheap WiFi with good access Cons - Water in the showers was scalding hot and could not be temperature controlled (luckily we didn't get sunburned, or have any young children with us - in these circumstances the showers would be unusable) - Lovely to see chickens roaming free on the site - but not so lovely being woken up by the cockerel at about 5am each morning. (This would be VERY annoying for a longer stay!)

Good stopover with access to St Quentin

Very pretty and green site with ponds all around. Unfortunately the snack bar was closed in Sept, but the site owner Alexandra was very nice and helpful. We're not interested in fishing, but will stay again to or from the ferry.

Lovely peace and quiet at Viviers aux Carpes

We now know this site well - began and ended our long trip this year with a stopover at this lovely, little site. Alexandra and Sebastien and their family work tirelessly to make this a special place. A warm welcome is guaranteed.  The  camper-van pitches are right in front of the lake (mosquito repellent useful).  The little cafe does take-way chips, pizza etc and they also do a nice line in Moules Frites! The nearness to St.Quentin makes for a good canal-side bike ride to this lovely city - loads of history around the area- especially recent history of wars.

Lovely little site

Just stayed here for 2 nights at the end of 3 week holiday on way back to port. Wanted a base to check out war cemeteries as 100 year Somme rememberance. What a lovely friendly site. Ok no frills or pool etc but clean and friendly. Little bar that serves reasonably priced excellent food and nice cool beer. The bugs can be a nuisance but expected in the height of summer and at side of a lake. We plan to now use this site on way down south and way back to port in future. Good access to war cemetery's and large British cemetery within walking distance. Loved it.

1 Nights stopover

We stopped here for 1 night on our way south on June 22nd. First impression was good as were greeted by very friendly owners. Our pitch was gravel and large enough to park our motorhome lengthways. The general impression of the site was that it could do with a little updating. The toilet facilities were good, modern and clean. Baguettes and croissants were available to order for the following morning. Our only problem were the mosquitos from the lakes either side of our pitch.

Worth a visit

Mature site with good size pitches. Facilities well maintained and clean.  Peaceful site.  The village supermarket is currently closed for repairs after a flood. No indication when it will reopen. No other food shops in village. The supermarket also provided the bread delivery to the site. That has stopped until the shop reopens. Nearest bakery 3/4 miles away in Saint Simon.

Not again

Was disappointed with the overall site which looked very neglected.  In fairness there must have been a lot of wet weather because the pitch we were given was extremely muddy and was only big enough for caravan and vehicle.  The facilities were clean but I wouldn't choose to stay there again.

Response from The Caravan Club:

Thank you for your review, regrettably this year the weather in Northern France has been very wet and disappointing.  Given these circumstances our sites have done their best to maintain their pitches and grounds, however with so much rainfall over a prolonged period this will have an adverse effect on conditions on site.  We really hope that the rest of this year’s season will be drier and brighter.

Response from Du Vivier aux Carpes:

Hi, thanks for your stay. Unfortunately we had a very wet spring and all June, so yes, pitches were wet and muddy. I don't think so that we can do anything about the weather. Also, we had a terrible storm with hails and rain, 2 weeks  ago causing much damage on the site. We try to do our best to clean and repair quickly. Looking forward to seeing you another time. Best regards.

Proper French

Stayed twice, on the way to and from Alsace and this is a super little site. Very quite with fishing lakes and wooded areas. The local village provides all the necessary amenities, bakery, bar, and bistro! Close enough to walk to a 1914-18 war cemetery if you want to remember (and you should). Well run and very clean. And if your sat-nav takes you the same way as mine you'll never forget Chemin Blanc!
