Lovely Fortnight
We have just returned home after a lovely couple of weeks (10th - 24th July) at this site. The only negative I would raise relates to the general maintenance of the hedges and trees. Some areas were in need of a trim so if you are looking for a site where the pitches look as though they have been manicured you will be somewhat disappointed. However, it could be argued that this more "natural" appearance adds to the rustic charm. The toilets and showers were always very clean, showers are free and hot water was plentiful. On arrival we were given tokens to use in the dishwasher - one token per day - and although we did use them frequently we did not find them very satisfactory and used to wash our cups and cutlery in the caravan. The site is very peaceful and pleasant and we made good use of the free pedalos on the lake. The restaurant, which is in a section on its own near the swimming pool, holds themed evenings (Paella, Mussels and BBQ) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and is open to locals as well as site users. We did not use this but they seemed popular and caused absolutely no disturbance to those of us on site. If you like pretty villages then visit La Roche Bernard (15 minutes) Rochefort dur Terre (50 minutes) and Pornic (30 minutes). The nearby village of La Calvaire is definitely worth visiting. Take time there to reflect on the various scenes depicting, in life size statues, the experience of God's Son Jesus at Calvary. Overall we would certainly recommend Chateau Du Deffay to couples (it is quiet and restful) or to families (there are good amenities for children).
Just one word of caution - if you use the Snooper Sat Nav (Caravan Club edition) don't select the site address fron those offered via the Sat Nav as it will take you to a place about 3 miles way.

Croissants are Excellent.
Lovely quite site in French countryside with friendly English speaking staff. The site is on a slope falling towards a lake but the pitches are pretty well level, some with full facilities. The toilets are pretty good but remember you are in France. The lake is lovely with resident Otters and Kingfishers so nature lovers will be happy. The croissants provided at the small shop are excellent so if your not careful you will put on weight, like I did. You wont be sorry visiting this site just be aware it`s down a narrow country lane so passing might be a challenge, but I`ve been down worse. Did`nt visit restaurant so can`t comment.
