Very enjoyable holiday

Very peaceful site except for one night when there was a wedding in the chateau, partying until 6am. But this was a one off. The facilities were very clean and well kept. Lovely location. My only criticism is that more information could be given to guests on arrival about area, markets etc.  Lovely kids facilities and pool and resturant bar area. All in all a great site that we would return to

Good Camping

Confirming the previous comments, esp re Dominic and staff. Pitches are generous, access is good, and the site is easy to find. Visit the surrounding towns, esp Roche Barnard, Piriac on the coast. Local large town Herbignac good for a very large Hyper-U, 10 mins drive. Site is very quiet, but restaurant/bar is very good, something going on 3 or 4 nights each week and the owners, Marco and Laur are very nice and can speak english as needed. Facilities are a touch on the rustic side, but everything works and it's kept clean. Would return, and would also go out of my way to use as a stopover for journeys south. (I would make it a Wednesday evening, hopefully it will be Moules & frites as usual!) Don't be put off is anyone comments about music noise from weddings at the chateau, it doesn't go on too long......much.. Take a walk around the lake and spot coypu... great place.

Quiet, peaceful and relaxing

This site is wonderfully peaceful. The pitches are large and there is no rule concerning how you must pitch your caravan. Dominique is very helpful, always cheerful and friendly. The bread, croissants etc available every morning are fantastic. The toilets and showers are kept very clean. The showers are the push button type and have no temperature control. Do not come to this site if you want a lively site with Disco, water park etc - it is not that sort of site at all. I would describe the site as rustic for nature lovers. There is a bar and restaurant onsite and a small shop selling the essentials at reception. The grounds of the site are well kept but the grass is not mowed every couple of days as you may find in the UK. The pitches are separated by a hedge/shrubbery which allows each pitch a hint of privacy. The site is an excellent base for exploring the Briere and towns such as Missillac, Pontchateau, La Baule, St Nazzaire. I would return to this site without hesitation it is a wonderful place.

Deffay a great site

After 23 years of using CC sites in France This site is my 2nd favourite. Dominique The lovely site manager is always a gentleman and very helpful. Toilets etc always clean, reasonable shop and pleasant restaurant- better in 2015 than 2014 - if you require manicured pitches stay in the UK. The pitches are perhaps a little too rustic for some but are large and suitable. I'll be there again in 2016 for six weeks...see you there! ????

Great site

The site is very laid back the pitches not being highly manicured and the natural residents being given as much priority as the visitors , after all they live here after we have gone. the showers and toilets are spotless and well maintained and the free dishwasher service is a great idea. Dominique is a extremely pleasant host and his English is perfect. The shop is small but well stocked should you forget anything at the hyper market. The bar and restaurant is run by Laura and Marco, what a team great menu and changed every to days and very well priced . all this resulting in a most pleasant two weeks.

Quiet but could be better

The site is easy to get to with satnav and the welcome is very friendly and straight forward. The site itself is very quiet which is what we were after with a lovely walk around the lake. The pitches aren't great. The one we were allocated had deep holes on the ground and spikes left from the previous customers awning. Luckily no damage but we were lucky. The site itself was looking very tired. The boats for the lake were broken or damaged, the table tennis and tennis court were in very poor condition and the pool needs some major attention. While we were there three children slipped on pool side (Including our daughter) and one of these children required hospital treatment. The pool side is not cleaned hence the reason it is slippy, the scum line needs cleaning and the pool needs heating better. The stone edges of the pool are loose which is causing the lining to come away from underneath the edging. Having said all this we would go back as we enjoyed our stay and if any of the above is remedied it would be a bonus.

Chateau de deffray

A quiet and peaceful site with top class cleanliness. Adequate shop on site and reasonable restaurant. A little remote but we enjoyed it very much and would recommend it to all types of holiday goers.

Short stopover

A nice enough site with plenty of shade.  Peaceful and quiet.  We had to wait over 2 hours to site caravan on our pitch because previous English family decided there was plenty of other pitches available. We pulled into an adjacent pitch but site staff said it was reserved but nobody used it before we left!

I booked this site late in the year it was not my first choice ,but i am glad the club suggested it as it was a great site with nice pool and plenty of space for my kids to play ,the pitch was a good size and we will be returning in the future as there is a lot in the surrounding area that we did not see we would reccomend this site to friends

Excellent one night stay

We spent an unplanned night here and were delighted to find that they had room for us. This is a lovely neat site next to a small lake. The manager was very welcoming. We were given a good-sized pitch separated from our neighbours by a small hedge. The restaurant on site served simple but acceptable dishes. The site is ~15km from the nature reserve of the Briere National Park, where there are fantastic bird-watching possibilities. The nearest town to the site, Pontchateau, contains some impressive religious statues / calvaries.
