It's Ok

We stayed for 4 nights at the beginning of August and the site was probably only about 25% full with British and Dutch caravanners and campers. The French seemed to occupy the chalets around the site. The lad in reception was friendly and showed us to our pitch. We'd booked a fully serviced pitch and he gave us a choice of 3. We refused all 3. They were all on a slope and looked like an allotment or cabbage patch. No grass whatsoever, just stumps and so deeply rutted and covered in molehills, I doubt we would have got off when it rained. He seemed somewhat bewildered that we weren't happy with the choice. When I asked if we could have one of the other dozen or so empty adjacent, flat pitches with some vegetation covering them he said "I must check" and went back to the office. He returned to give us the OK. For the 4 nights we were there nobody else arrived to take any of the other pitches. In Estate Agent speak the site itself is pleasantly secluded. The 'middle of nowhere' to everyone else, which does make for a peaceful environment. Especially as the pool, shop and bar are located in the old outbuildings to the chateau, the other side of the access road. The drawback is that everywhere requires a car journey. The facilities were kept very clean but the site was relatively empty. We didn't use the bar or restaurant in the evening but did sit on the terrace one afternoon for a couple of drinks. It was nice and the staff were very friendly. The pools seemed quite small but adequate. The general area is fairly uninteresting compared with areas such as Brittany, the Loire, Dordogne or the Basque Country. When you've seen one salt marsh you've seen them all. The coast around Piriac-sur-Mer, La Turballe, Lerat and Le Croisic is lovely and Guerande is worth a visit.

Peaceful site.

A bit of a mixed bag, mainly good but with some problems. Arrival at site wasn't the best, unlike the previous reviewers experience, the young man who met us at reception couldn't have seemed less interested. We weren't given any local information, or a choice of pitches (even though most pitches were empty), just given a hand drawn map and sent on our way. The 'super' pitch we were allocated had access that was difficult to enter with a car, never mind an 8 metre caravan, and it nearly burnt out the clutch shunting backward and forwards for 20 minutes. Once set up it seems you have to get your waste water to run uphill to use the drain on the pitch, so we had to resort to the Wastemaster. In fairness, we saw plenty of others arrive, and they were shown to their pitches and given useful info, so maybe just avoid the guy who works at reception. The site itself is lovely, the pitches were big, with a little levelling required. A little noise from a party at the Chateau one night, but not enough to keep us awake. There is a nice pool, which was empty most of the time, and a small bar/restaurant which opens from 5pm daily. There is a small shop, which stocks very little, but you can order bread etc for the following day. Good toilets and showers, and you even get given tokens to use the onsite 5 minute dishwashers each day, something we've never encountered before.

Fantastic site

This site was amazing. The staff made a real effort to welcome us, offering us a choice of pitches & showing us to them. Really professional. They went the extra mile, explaining the locality and where everything was on the site. The site itself has a laid back and cozy atmosphere. Very friendly but basically don't impose on you unless you want help with something. There is a good shop & nice bar with food. Lovely pool and lake that you can use free of charge. Huge pitches which were accessible and easy to pitch up on. I dont have young children but saw that there was lots of play areas & bouncy castles, trampolines & even organised pony rides for the children. It made me want to borrow some kids just to join in. Loved this site. Highly recommended to anyone of any age.

Peace and Tranquility

We stayed here for 5 nights at the end of July. We had good electricity and our own water supply. The site is spread out with fairly large pitches, we were at the side of the lake where we watched coypu playing. The toilets/showers were very clean, although we never used the facilities. There was a small shop on site where bread could be ordered daily, also a restaurant. There's a good children's play area and pedalos for the lake. Pontchateau is about 5 miles away where there is a good Leclerc for everything you need. The coast is only 30 minutes away, we spent a fun afternoon collecting fresh mussels from the beach at Pornichet which we cooked later. We could see where some pitches might become muddy in wet weather but most appeared to be well drained. At just over £22 a night, with free wifi all over the site, this was excellent value for money.

In need of TLC

Stayed for 4 nights earlier this month. The washrooms and pool were pretty good but the site generally seem pretty tired and the pitches in need of tidying up and levelling. Restaurant very basic, couldn't do a salad. Not a great deal of interest in the area. A noisy all-male party from a chalet roamed around late at night. In summary, ok but nothing special.

Brilliant if you have a dog

Stayed here begin of this month on our way to il d'oleron. Staff spoke English, very helpful too. Clean facilities. Great for the dog as there was a lake. Which proved a good morning walk round it, with his flinger and ball. Restaurant staff nice and friendly too, even if you where only having a drink. One night I asked what does the shop close? As I needed milk. When I paid the bar bill she brought me some milk from the shop. Which I thought was a good touch.

Wonderfull relaxed site

Very convenient for N165, easy to find with good access. Most pitches are large with a choice of shade or sun. We chose to be next to the lake, seeing many kingfishers and coypu. Very few mossies or wasps. Water and electricity adjacent. Facilities all spotless.Wi-Fi access everywhere, but sometimes slow. Nice bar and restaurant open the latter end of the week, with good value menus. Staff all very friendly and speaking English. Bread available mornings. We loved the peace and quiet and being on the edge of The Brieres Regional National Park. Covered pool, but not heated. Third week in September, so not busy. Kids play area and a huge field to romp around in. Free pedaloes on lake. We will be back !

Beautiful Site

We visited at the end of the season and shared this beautiful site with only around six other visitors. Even so the restaurant was open and you could spend a very enjoyable evening in the courtyard of the Chateau. The site is quite a distance from any local amenities so you do need transport. The facilities on site are basic but very clean. Can't compare what this site is like in peak season but it does seem to have all the attractions that people would want. All in all well worth a visit.
