We stayed here during the peak weeks in August. This site is stunningly beautiful. The location next to the Dordogne and opposite the small village of Limeuil is divine. The site itself is very well maintained and the owners obviously take great pride in their site.
We have stayed here before and had a relaxing holiday. This time we did not! The pitch we were allocated was at least 90% sandy dirt with barely a blade of grass to be seen. It became impossible to keep the awning or caravan free of this dirt as it just blew everywhere. The owner did inform us that they reseed it every year, but really it just needs to be made into a hard standing. The pitch was opposite the toilets, so there was constant noise from people coming and going which is to be expected, but maybe not the teens who decided to ride their bikes through the facilities yelling at the tops if their voices late at night! As the chemical disposal point was also there we were in receipt of some ‘aromas’ if the breeze was in the wrong direction. Our pitch had a lovely view of the horses field, but also unfortunately the (immaculately kept) sorts field. As it was high season there were many large groups of teenagers who largely congregated on the field of an evening to play sports ( which is lovely) but who then stayed til after 2.00am. We heard them told to go to bed at 1.00am but many just went back and continued the noise.
Our advice would be, firstly avoid high season, unless you wish for a site full of teenagers living their best lives! and secondly do make clear when you book what sort of pitch you would like. There are many grassy pitches, away from the noise . We really wish we had been more specific when we booked and could have avoided the very short straw pitch that we received.
This site enjoys a beautiful setting beside the confluence of the Rivers Dordogne and Vezerre. We received a very warm welcome from the lady on reception and found all staff friendly and helpful throughout our stay in early May.
There is a mixture of grass and had standing pitches with full services available to all. Well established hedges and trees provide a good degree of privacy. The unseasonably wet spring across much of France had left some pitches very wet and so we chose a hard standing with views of the river. Unfortunately during our first 2 days continued showers resulted in the view of the river increasing as the lower part of the site became flooded. The owner was most helpful assuring us that it wouldn’t rise to our pitch but we felt the best option was to decamp, wet awning and all, to a pitch on slightly higher ground which we did in with his complete agreement. The campsite was obviously in no way responsible for the rising river level and as the owner said the water would not rise up to the original pitch, but it is worth bearing in mind in such extreme weather. That said, from that point on we enjoyed beautiful sunny weather during the majority of our 8 night stay. The site facilities are first class with bar, restaurant and takeaway providing good reasonably priced food. The pool complex was both open and heated despite this being fairly early in the season. We prefer to use our own facilities so don’t have experience of the toilet/shower facilities but they were both modern and clean. This is a beautiful area of France full of interesting and spectacular places to visit. The small village of Limeuil on the opposite river bank is charming and the walk up to the gardens atop the cliff are well worth the effort. I have no hesitation in recommending this excellent site which in dryer times enjoys the benefit of a riverside beach with river swimming and canoe hire. We would love to return to enjoy them.
We have just had 2 weeks in this pretty campsite, lovely setting, great pitches with freedom to pitch as you wish, lovely pool, shop and cafe. The owners were helpful and the site so well maintained I almost don’t want to tell anyone else about it in case it gets too busy! Thank you for a lovely stay!
We stayed here in September 2021
This is a first class location for visiting the many towns and villages along the Dordogne and its surrounds
This is our fifth stay in this area - all at different sites - and we know there is something for all the family on offer
We were warmly greeted at reception and all staff were cheerful and helpful throughout our stay
The facilities were all maintained to a very high standard
Good swimming pool - heated when necessary
We chose a pitch overlooking the river (our guess is that in high season tents would have been allowed between our pitch and the river)
We would highly recommend this site
We stayed at this lovely family run site for 19 nights in August and were delighted with every aspect
The owners are extremely helpful and friendly ,no wonder they get so many repeat visits from campers There were many Brits along with several Dutch French and Germans which gave the site a friendly buzz In fact the friendliness of everyone was one of the stand out features of Port Limeuil
The owner told us very few Caravan Club members actually came this year which is a shame as it’s one of the best sites we have visited and they were doing there best to manage the Covid situation but keep facilities open
We used our own van for showers etc but the site facilities were very clean and regularly maintained
The pitches are large with sharing taps and by adding a y piece we had permanent water
The site was busy with a mix of caravans Motorhome tents and lodges for hire
Although we were there as a couple it’s ideal for families and although lively during the day it never felt noisy and all went quiet at 10:30 pm
We thoroughly enjoyed sitting by the river which was 50 m away from the caravan and is warm to swim in as well as enjoying the nearby kayaking
The Dordogne is a lovely area to explore and this site is well placed to allow this The historic villages and Chateaux that are abundant in the area are fantastic to visit
We will most certainly come back again
What a fabulous camp site this is. We visited in Sept meaning to stay for a week before moving on. We ended up staying for sixteen nights and only left because the site was closing for the season. Warm and friendly family run site that attracts many who return regularly and I fully understand why. Big pitches, with partial shade, full shade or open aspect hedges separating them. Excellent water and waste facilities, lovely clean and tidy toilet and shower blocks, well stocked shop. Great bar and a restaurant that gave the local ones a run for their money both on food quality and prices. We found ourselves eating here more often than we did at the local villages such was great food on offer.
The owners go to great pains to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. There are loads of facilities, two pools, tennis court, badmington/volley ball court, playing field and river front where you can paddle or even swim in the Dordogne.
The site is opposite the picturesque village of Limeuil that is well worth visiting with many interesting sites to see.
This is a great central location from which to explore the rest of the Dordogne area. Being a cyclist I took advantage of the lovely quiet roads each and every day exploring the surrounding area. I was in cyclists heaven.
Each town has a market which the camp site owners make sure you know about on their notice board. There are large supermarkets only 5 km away in the town of Le Bugue which is also worth a visit in itself.
The owners and staff speak excellent English and appreciated my poor efforts at trying to converse in French.
If you are looking for a great site for a family holiday, couples or retired this site has it all. Chapeau.
I've just stayed here for a week and was sad to leave - always a good sign. I received a friendly and helpful welcome at reception before being showed to a good sized hardstanding pitch. The site has everything that you need and is in a lovely location - I visted Bergerac by train and Le Bugue by bike. This is now a site on my "must return to" list.
We stumbled upon this site while touring with our caravan back in 2004. When we found it we quickly returned to the site we were staying on, packed up and moved the Port de Limeuil, it was so stunning. The site is on the banks of the Dordogne at its confluence with the Vezere, you can walk straight out onto the stony river 'beach' from the site. There are also picturesque bridges across each river within easy walking distance from the site. Across the river is the stunning little village of Limeuil, perched on a hill and this is a must to visit. We were there for Bastille Day (14 July) and there was a small fair on the river bank and we sat outside our caravan and watch the fireworks above the village. The highlight of this site is swimming in the Dordogne! The wide river flows quite fast over the stony bed and this makes for exhilarating rides down on the current simply by sitting down in the water and leaning back.
This site is so good that we returned for a day visit while staying at La Tournerie in Montignac in 2015. The site has grown and was busier that 2004, understandably, but the facilities on the site have been increased and are good and well cleaned. Excellent pool and shops, this site is well place for exploring the Dordogne and Vezere valleys. We are going back during our annual France Tour this year and will stay for longer.
