Disappointing

We arrived having booked at full price through the Caravan Club and were told we were expected. No one about and no message but a generic one glimpsed through window of office saying take any pitch. Did this and then discovered no electricity or water available on main ground...had to use taps in block. Generally rather tatty though lots of potential as quiet site on edge of nice town Extremely disappointing after long days drive through France and expected more at this cost.

Response from the Club:

This is a small site and if on arrival the busy owners are working elsewhere on site please check the Noticeboard for arrival information - the owners have just finished a brand new toilet block for the 2020 season and are keen to invest for the future, we will pass on your comments to them.

Strange but nice

We arrived and there was nobody in reception. Another UK family told us to look through reception window to see what pitch we had reserved for us. We found our pitch number and helped ourselves to it. Washroom was good, pool area looked very family friendly (we didn't use it) and our pitch was big enough and level enough. Most bizarre - when we returned to reception (still nobody around) we found a big box full of melons with a notice "free melons - help yourself". We took one and ate it for tea - lovely! Stayed for 2 nights and never did see anyone in reception. However, site very well laid out with everything easy to find so not a problem. A lovely site well located for a visit to Puy de Fou,

Oh Dear

When was the last time this site was visited by a CC inspector? This is the worst site we have ever stayed on in the 20+ years we have been visiting France! We arrived in the middle of the heatwave so all the grass pitches were very dry and barren which is understandable. However the first thing you see on arrival is the caravan storage area, once checked in the next unsightly thing is the open fronted bin area on your way to your pitch. Pool area was just about adequate with the strangest tap for the shower! The whole site needs massive investment. We realise the current owners are not only new to the site but it appears they are new to the caravan industry. Contrary to other reviews we did not find the owners to be pleasant or helpful. The outdoor area of the restaurant is unfinished and the menu practically non-existent! We have never been to a restaurant on a site to be served fish and chips in a take away container when you are dining in! If you are looking for a 'British' experience in France then maybe this is the site for you, but we will never return! Such a shame as the area has a lot to offer.

Response from the Campsite:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay on our site. I hope my comments answer any queries you have.

The caravan storage is below road level and is screened by mature trees that were in full leaf at the time. The storage area has been next to the site which was set up by the people who started the camp site 24 years ago. The bin shed is not totally open fronted and is housed in an old stable, there is an opening which is one bin width wide to allow people to access to the bin that is in operation. The shower tap in the swimming pool is a French tap which you have to turn 90 degrees to turn the shower on. We are investing heavily in the campsite, projects completed to date include a porch on the shower block, a new reception, a games room with pool table, an outside seating area with shady pergola, the surround of the swimming pool concreted for extra seating and sun bathing area, a new liner in the swimming pool, a purpose built outside terrace with block paving. We have also upgraded the WiFi system. Ongoing projects include extending the bar area which is part of a large extension to the living accommodation. We are also installing a number plate recognition system to access the campsite. We will start building a new purpose built shower block in November 2018.

We have just completed our third season and have been very keen campers and caravanner’s for the last 45 odd years. We do our utmost to be pleasant and helpful. The outside area of the restaurant is finished what was not completed was the block paved area which will be part of the entrance to the new bar. The restaurant offers a choice of 4 or 5 starters, 5 or 6 main meals, a choice of desserts including a selection of tarts and ice creams, a full cheese selection and specialty tea and coffee. Thursday night is fish and chip night which is extremely popular, we offer to eat in or take away which is served in a take away carton. We can serve fish and chips on plates if diners request that and want to eat in.

We store circa 150 caravans of English ownership where the majority of our clients visit and stay for extended periods of time. All of the above information can be found on our website.

Best regards,

De Courte Vallée

Peace and quiet in a lovely location.

Unlike most of the campers we met at this site, who had booked a longer holiday, we chanced upon it as a handy stop off on our way north , using our Acsi card and were pleasantly surprised. Yes it does seem to be full of British campers ( actually it was nice to be able to chat in English again!) but it's set on the edge of a very nice small town and close enough to other attractions if you have a car. The town has a very helpful tourist office and a Saturday market, as well as an old church and underground spring and medieval houses. The campsite is run by British owners ,who have only been here a couple of years, and they make a real effort to keep people happy. They have a fish and chips night, bbq evening (bring your own meat), and other events. We did find the bar and food a little expensive but as we'd spent the majority of our holidays in Spain and Portugal we decided that we'd been spoilt there! The pool was small but perfect for cooling down and meeting other campers. Toilet facilities were small but clean, they are unisex but that didn't seem to matter on such a peaceful site. Down the hill there are some nice walks along the riverside, the owners gave us a leaflet with 3 easy walks described.

Lovely little site

As annual visitors to France, we decided to look for a site to visit and one that could store our caravan. Camping de Courte Vallee seems to fit the requirements. I lovely little site with spacious pitches, nice pool which I would say was of an adequate size , and has sun beds and parasols around it. There is a small bar/restaurant area. Have not had any trouble finding an electric point, there seemed to be one every 3 pitches, so longish lead may have be required. The sanitary facilities we perfectly adequate and kept nice a clean. When we visited in May the site was very green and the grass was a little long on some pitches but we were there for 7 nights and it rained every day at some point, so no possibility of getting the grass cut. When we arrived in August the change was quite remarkable most pitches had very little green grass as they had had very little rain since our last stay. During our stay the empty pitches were regularly cut and I thought they were quite well maintained. There is a bar/restaurant area with covered and open air dinning, we had a very nice 3 course meal. We also wentto fish and chip night. The menu is limited but perfectly adequate, we visited the bar on a few evenings and found the staff and other campers very friendly. The storage offered is very reasonable price and it was nice to arrive to find our caravan on our requested pitch all ready for us. Awnings are erected if required (at a small cost) so everything is just ready for you to start enjoying your holiday. It has the added benefit of being ideally situated for travelling around France without having to tow from the UK, saving on ferry crossings and fuel costs. Most of the campers on the site were English but you only have to leave the site to be immersed in the French culture. There are several lovely towns nearby to visit and many things to do a little further a field. Looking forward to our next visit.

2016 three week visit

We stayed here, booking through the Caravan Club, from 31st July and departed 16th August 2016. We have travelled extensively abroad with our caravans for more than 30 years. We thought the site was great. We had no trouble finding the electricity point. The site was quiet. The new owners appeared to be doing their very best. While we were there they were in the process of getting the games room up and running. The Wi Fi went down for a short time owing to a problem occurring when the aerial was moved to the new reception cabin. We loved the place, the people we met, and the people that ran it. The sun shone every day we were there.

Unless significant improvements- avoid

We spent 2 days at this site during August this year and very surprised that this camp site made its way into the range of sites recommended by the caravan club.  Standards are not anywhere near those that I would expect the caravan club to be associated with and very disappointed given how good the club is normally. If the new owners examined the facilities and I would suggest that they look at them again or see it from the campers perspective (use the showers and sit on the loo) The site lacked a customer focus and professional approach. We did look in what is claimed to be the information / games room and the range of available leaflets and how they were displayed reflected the care and standard of this site.......a mess.

Sadly didn't work for us

Staff clearly exasperated at check in, however, allocated a lovely private pitch hedged to 3 sides so easy to put it behind me. Couldn't find the electric hook up so went back to reception, they said there was one out there somewhere and offered an extension lead. I eventually found the electric point, my 25m of cable would not reach and extension cable no use as all points already had plugs. No problem would do without power as only staying one night. Tried to connect to internet, not working. Back to reception who explained it was out of order but it was not their fault so that was all right then OK no power, no internet, so off to bar for something to eat. Zero atmosphere, bare undecorated outdoor eating area, staff seemed untrained but willing, food choice small, however good plate of cheese to round meal off with. Shower and early night seemed in order, unfortunately pool was closed and so facilities block had become the impromptu play area, decided to leave it for the morning and nodded off to the kids playing football around the van. Next morning facilities block totally inadequate for number of people staying there and went back to use in shower in the van Left knowing I would not be returning. Only suggestion I can make is that they close off half the site while the staff are trained, electric points sorted out and a second facilities block built and some trellis and plants put in the cafe area

Rural boutique campsite

We first visited this site 20 months ago in our 27ft motor home. It is on the edge of a lovely medieval village with easy access to larger towns, markets and vineyards. We booked in for 1 night on our way back from the south of France, but stayed for 4 and then made a dash for the ferry! We are now frequent visitors and have recently returned from a two week stay. It is a very well-kept – indeed quite delightful - small “boutique” site with lots of well-tended trees and bushes for shade and privacy. We often take the dogs for a 7am walk along the lovely old hedge that surrounds the site and which is filled with an abundance of wild flowers that attract swarms of butterflies and dragon flies. There is a small café/bar with a very good cook 4 nights a week, with a BBQ/curry/pizza organised by the owners on the other nights for those who want it. The site changed hands just over a year ago, but is still run in the same very friendly and helpful way. Anniedavid

Dreadful

Chilly welcome. Pitch allocated already occupied. Scruffy pitches. Poor maintenance. Untidy surroundings. This photo is many years out of date. Facilities overstretched. Not a site for those touring France. Avoid at all costs.

Response from the Caravan Club:

Thank you for leaving your review on our website.  We are disappointed to hear that your visit did not match your expectations.  Due to the excessive rainfall and storms during May and June many of our sites in northern Europe have not looked their best with regular downpours restricting grass and hedge cutting, however we hope that the rest of this year’s season will be drier and brighter.

Response from La Courte Vallee:

All our staff as are briefed to greet customers with a welcome and a smile, we realise that people have travelled a long way and are quite stressed when they arrive.

We paint and stain every piece of outdoor woodwork and we have a maintenance book where any issues are logged and dealt with within 48 hours.

May was incredibly wet which hampered our grass cutting, as soon as the sun came out we cut as much as we could but then it would start raining again.

We can assure you that this photo is a current view of the camp site and is not out of date.

The camp site has been open for some 21 years now, admittedly the shower block is showing signs of that age, however it is regularly maintained and cleaned every day to a very high standard, we have plans to build a new shower block, we are opening a new reception and games room shortly, the entry system is being upgraded to a number plate recognition system, we are also upgrading the free WI FI system, we have outdoor seating for circa 60 people on the terrace of the bar and bistro and the pool has recently had a new liner and new steps built in and new pool side furniture.

We welcome all tourers and are conveniently located about 3.5 hours from the major northern sea ports, in fact we have recently had many people who were touring stay for extra nights as they have liked our site so much.
