Sweet Dreams
Just spent four wonderful days in sun drenched York, at Rowntree Park Club site, Fantastic! Even though the site was full, the pitches are large and you get the feeling of not being over crowded. The site is spotless with no signs of the recent work and the facilities first rate. The wardens, although constantly run off their feet with arrivals and departures always have time for a chat or to help find that special place to visit. The day before we arrived 60 units had to be booked in and the staff expected a further 15 to arrive after us in late afternoon. A word of warning, the approach roads to the site are narrow and could present a problem for large units arriving meeting those departing so please avoid arriving before 1200hours but don’t let that put you off, it’s a great site.
Away from the site, York City is a ten minute stroll along the riverbank, full of everything you would expect from a City as well as a long and fascinating history and not forgetting the river. The place has something to offer both young and old and will entertain the family throughout their stay, there’s also a kids playground next door in the park. Eating establishments abound to cater for all, we liked ‘Plonkers’ wine bar in Cumberland Street serving homemade food, the steak and ale pie was excellent followed by proper jam rolly polly that took me back too far to those halcyon days of school dinners although the custard wasn’t as lumpy as I remember it. Nearer to the site, just five minutes walk via the back gate you’ll find some local shops including a small supermarket where you can find most provisions you might want and you can enjoy a nice coffee at the ‘Pig and Pie’ at the top of the road.
We really enjoyed our stay at Rowntree Park, It was great to be able to park the car and forget it for the rest of our stay and we will be back later in the year.
