Not our best visit

As regular visitor to Rowntree Park we know our way about but found the recently introduced new system unhelpful and disappointing. A warden met us and asked for our membership card which we duly supplied in return for a site plan "Find a white peg, pitch and come back and pay".  When we asked where they were we were told " No idea, I've been cleaning toilets - look at the plan!".  I understand arrivals need to be cleared quickly at Rowntree so as not to block the road but a list of available spaces would surely not have been so difficult. As there is nowhere to park up to check availability we joined the many peering over hedges etc to find the elusive pegs (hidden in corners rather than the centre of the pitch). It's not the easiest site to drive around due to some tight bends so watch out. By the time we found one we were pretty stressed and annoyed. We felt allocation would have been preferable to this system.   There were signs on all doors warning of forthcoming hot water disruption, however we didn't see the notice boards till too late ie, we were stripped off, that the problem was low water pressure and almost cold water in the showers. We only tried them once. Overall, this was our most disappointing visit ever to York. We are booked for New Year and hoping things change. We noted too that there are plans for a 105 bedroom hotel to be built on the old Riverside site. This will really overlook the site and spoil it for everyone.
