Disappointed this time.

On arrival, we were told that the rear gate was locked at 10 pm, but were also informed that it was a decision from "head office". As the complaints about site related issues are on a 20 working days response time, seems a bit of a waste of time really. It should be made clear, along with all the other flood defence works info, that there is effectively a 10pm curfew on the site. Yes the extra walk is "doable" but it's now very muddy along the river, and not really appealing after a night out in the city. To be honest, it's made me look at the site in a more critical light than before. So for me, the main appeal of the site is its proximity to York City centre, for not only daytime excursions, but also a meal out, and a couple of drinks in the many pubs, something referred to in the site leaflet, as it happens. This for now, at night at least, is a bit of a non starter. As I say, this has made me look more closely at the site, and it's making me realise its got a few faults, that could do with a looking at, nothing massive but here's my two'pennorth. The site is quite cramped and virtually a car park with hedges, it's always been this way, but never really noticed before. Also, the site has more non awning pitches, than awning pitches, which I accept is just a result of the "clumped up" nature of the site. However its always the same, almost impossible to book an awning pitch, then when you turn up and squeeze your caravan and car onto a non cat swinging pitch, you're next to a small vw camper, whose occupants can both swing 2 bengal tigers each at the side of their van. Its not like they would feel squished up on a non awning pitch, is it? Maybe restrict small, single vehicle units to non awning pitches? Also, I know its kind of a city break, but it's lit up like like a city centre, with bright lampposts all over the site. Maybe I'm just getting older and grumpier, and I'm sure there's good reasons for the gate curfew, and the lighting, no doubt the camper van owners wii hound me for grumbling about them and there's nowt can be done about the car park nature of the site, but for me it's losing its appeal. Mind you, it's probably still going to be near impossible to book on here for a weekend, so it shows how much I know! 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Another moan about the smaller campervan on an awning pitch!!! The campervan managed to book the pitch.👍

You need to understand that both awning and non awning pitches cost the same... so why would anyone pay the same amount for a smaller pitch whitch allows other outfits to be closer to you and usually non awning pitches are only there due to their position or poor location.

When the Club brings all pitches to a certain standard and non awning pitches are cheaper than awning pitches then smaller outfits might feel inclined to book non awning pitches.🚐

An absolutely true review Junezhubby. It was so true that I didn't have to bother writing mine. Well done. First time on this well reviewed site for us and it doesn't live up to the 'hype'. Noise from the playground on Rowntree park and crammed on a non awning pitch as it was all that was left at booking, whilst 'vans with windows' and motorhomes are taking up surrounding awning pitches, when they are clearly don't need or utilise the extra width offered. Will stick to private York sites in future. Where pitches are allocated based on unit size and needs because it's plainly obvious the camping fraternity can't work it out for themselves.
