Worth staying for a few days

At first we were almost bombarded by rules - but they were necessary due to the proximity of the site to a racing stud. Weird set-up in the ladies washroom, but it was fine. Phil didn't fancy doing the washing up because it meant apparently walking into the Ladies!! Site organised and maintained very well, we especially loved the two playing fields - one for children and one for dogs! Wi-Fi didn't work too well, but not much of a problem as we were only staying one night. Would definitely come again as a base for visiting York and the surrounding countryside.

First visit

Friendly staff, good size of pitch, everyone on site helpful. Short distance to York and other attractions.

Could do with updating

This site suffers from noise from 2 major roads but is kept clean and tidy by the wardens who with the exception of one grumpy one were very friendly and helpful. The facilities block was generally very clean despite it being a busy bank holiday, it would however benefit from updating. Overall the site was user friendly with a good children's play area but the 5mph speed limit needs to be imposed on all forms of transport including bikes and electric scooters.

Could be better

Firstly this is a pleasant enough site, but it lacks character in that it isn't landscaped, so it's a bit like a car park with a few trees. Unfortunately there are also a few other problems: 1. When we arrived there was one very harassed warden on duty, and we did not get the usual Caravan Club welcome or enquiry of how our journey had been. 2. The Toilet block was not very clean and had an unpleasant odour. 3 We were told that the only space available was a non barbecue space. There was no offer of the space costing any less, I think the club should consider this. 4. One of the alley ways to the water facilities was being fitted with gates during our stay. I cannot understand why. This makes it very difficult when using Aqua Roll/Waste Master etc. It is to stop bikes and scooters, but there was originally a slalom system in place which seemed to work much better. 5, This is a very busy and consequently quite a noisy site. I think quite a few people use it as a stop off when travelling long distance, so it's not very peaceful. 6. The access to the site is very easy, but the roads immediately outside get very busy and we were stuck in the same jam nearly every day of our holiday. The Good Points: 1. Very handy for York and the Park and Ride at Monks Cross. 2. A good football field for the children, as well as a good park. More sites should offer these facilities. Would we stay again? Probably yes, but maybe not for two weeks.

Sunshine in York

Very nice sites, the spotless classic toilet block, perfect size pitch, large playing field and swing park and essential food to buy all on site. Toby Grill on main York ring road 15 minutes walks, but you will have to add another 15 minutes onto that to get to the bus stop to get public transport into York ?? ok walking to the bus,but when you have been site seeing and walking all day,it's along walk home, but we did have great weather. PS think that CC site are over changing us to use washing machine and tumble dryer.

A great site for visiting York

We stayed on this site for a few days with our granddaughter with a view to spend our days in York. From this point of view this was perfect with the Monks Cross park and ride a 4 minute drive away. The site is spotlessly clean and generally well looked after. The provision of both a play ground and playing field are a bonus for families. On the down side, the traffic noise from the adjacent A64 and York northern bypass is insistent and stars up before 6am and remains a nuisance until after 11pm. Local access to the site is excellent with wide approach roads and excellent signage(as long as you don't get confused by all the non-club signs to other local sites!). However, the main road approaches are very busy and the final few miles can take a very long time with queuing traffic at every junction and roundabout. Overall a well run site giving excellent access to York and the surrounding area, but allow a good chunk of extra time for your journey towards the site and away from it.

Good location

Stayed mid July to beginning August. Easy route but pleased we used google maps before journey so we didn't miss site entrance lane off busy roundabout. Site lovely and peaceful during the day and excellent easy routes for sightseeing - especially park and ride. Toilet block clean except for how some people had left them - this was not the wardens fault, they worked hard in this area as well as the grounds. Evenings were noisy due to unsupervised children racing around the site and in between the cars and caravans on bikes, which a number of people around us were not happy about. We were pitched far enough away from the excellent play area for this to supposedly not affect us but it did. Children's scooters and bikes were left lying in road and all-around toilet block causing obstruction to Pedestrians as well as cars. Have nothing against children having fun but seems they have no safety sense thinking the roads are their race track as the site is secure. Worryingly we saw a number of near accidents which were not car drivers fault, especially as the speed limit was usually adhered to. Would stay here again but probably not during school holidays if possible, due to the number of near misses some children had

Lovely spacious site - definite feel good factor!

We have just spent six days at Beechwood Grange with our Grandsons (11 and 16) joining us for part of the time. We brought them here two years ago and they requested a return visit. The Wardens are exceptionally hardworking and friendly. Lovely atmosphere on the site, with something for everyone in the vicinity. In York, we visited The National Railway Museum, Clifford's Tower, and walked the walls. Another day was spent at the excellent York Maze. The space on the site was ideal for enjoyable outdoor games - we were very lucky with the weather! Monks Cross Shopping Centre is very handy, and the nearby Park and Ride into York is a real bonus. Would return.

Location + and -

Whilst the location is great for visiting York and the surroundings, its proximity to the ring road does make it noisy for much of the time. No problem finding it and the site is well kept. The facilities were clean and the site was tidy. Can't really say how good it might be for families as I didn;t have one with me. Would I go again? Probably if I really needed to be in the area.
