Hot weather summer visit
This was our second visit to this site. Last time saw us dealing with high winds and flooded pitches, this time it was baking hot and proper summer weather. Improvements have been made to some pitches since our last visit and it was good to see that no further erosion of the cliff face has happened. We throughly enjoyed being back and visiting Liverpool from Hoylake where there is a free park-and-ride car park adjacent to the railway station (the height barrier was not across when we visited) and with 15 minute services this we find is the easy and quick way into the city. We visited the terracotta warriors. It is very popular and it will be unlikely that you will be able to just turn up and be admitted to that exhibition. We booked in advance and even a week ahead we only just got in a slot before we left for home. West Kirby was beautiful with the sands golden and gorgeous. We spend an enjoyable day on the front at Wallasey too. We didn't revisit Port Sunlight, the U-boat museum or the ferry on the Mersey but they are all worth a visit. I noticed that this site was opened by the Earl of Derby in June 1988 so it has just turned thirty. I guess the toilet block was new when opened. It is showing its age. Noisy and dirty extractor fans, loose taps at the sinks, uneven fitting ceiling tiles and small cubicles with the old fashioned white plastic stools to balance clothing on are really not good enough given the prices being asked for. The wardens do their level best to make it all work for us but you cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear and it is high time this toilet block was replaced. We have just come from Chester Fairoaks. This site and Chester is the same acreage and roughly the same number of pitches and both owned by the Caravan Club Ltd yet Chester has a new toilet block with twice the number of showers and basins and many more service areas dotted around the site. It is time some of our subs was invested in the Wirral site. Lastly there is some noise from overflying aircraft as well as local youths driving fast cars at high speed along Station Road with no regard to the speed bumps, and being a farming area loud bird-scaring noises start up at 5.30am and go well on into the evening. Hopefully some of that will be seasonal. We met some lovely people and hope to return at some point.
