You might need ear defenders.
A very clean and tidy site, very close to Woolacombe beach which is a fantastic beach, and very dog friendly. Shower block is new, very clean and warm, a pleasure to use. We stayed for 5 nights, and the weather was marvoulous for October. On arriving on site you are greeted by the sign "This is not a dog toilet area" Then the first conversation with the Warden consisted of "please don't allow your dogs on the grass" You are given a key to a gate leading to a dog walk along a solid path, which has white paint markings saying "pick up your dog poo " Along the path there are several circles in white paint, showing where dog poo was left in the past, but no longer exists, someone around must have a severe dislike for dog poo and perhaps dogs, we did not feel very welcome with our dogs at all . We felt the site was more dog tolerant than dog friendly. We spent mornings on Woolacombe beach, and returned to the Campsite early afternoon for lunch and a little quiet time. However 4 hours of solid lawn mowing by a very keen grounds man, with mandatory ear defenders ruined our quiet time, for 3 of our 4 days on site, forcing us to close all our windows as the noise was terrible, I do realise grass has to be cut, but 4 hours each day seems a little too much, so much for a peaceful week ?
Comment from The Club:
Many thanks for your review and we were sorry to read your negative comments concerning dogs on site. The site has had an issue with members not picking up their dog waste and this has resulted in them receiving numerous complaints from the local residents who have now taken matters into their own hands by spray painting circles on the path. The rear of the site leads onto the Tarka Trail Path (Sustrans Route 27a and Public footpath) and many people have abandoned their dog waste there as well as leaving it at the front of the site. This is a continuous problem which means the team there at Willingcott are picking up dog waste on a daily basis. They are trying hard to work with members and the local residents to resolve this issue amicably and they have displayed temporary reminder notices to pick up your dog waste in an attempt to overcome the problem. Regarding keeping dogs off the grass the team had been carrying out pitch repairs which meant many areas had fertiliser applied which is why dog owners were told to keep their dogs off the grass for their own health and safety.
Regarding the level of noise from the mowing. The team work very hard to ensure the site is kept in good condition for everyone to enjoy and at this time of year they are keen to take advantage of any good weather. They do try to be mindful of anyone sitting out in their awning and will have a quick chat to explain what they are doing and if needs be will go elsewhere and then return later if possible. As we are nearing the end of the season the warden was keen to get a final cut in. The work took approximately 2 hours on 2 days and we apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst this essential maintenance work was carried out. I hope this helps to address some of your concerns
