August bank holiday stay
Arrived later than planned a sign directed us to the laundry room where we picked up a pack of info about the site and our pitch number. Our first pitch was 39 which unfortunately was behind the toilet block which meant we could hear the door banging and the hand dryers frequently. We'd extended our stay from our original booking of a pitch with awning but had to have a non-awning pitch on our first and last nights due to the site being quite full.
Met the wardens Jo and Malc the next day, They were lovely, very chatty, friendly and accommodating. They tried hard to enable us to stay on our awning pitch for our final night but were unable to do so due to the site being so full.
Site was clean and tidy, surprisingly quiet and peaceful with lots of open space. It says no dog walk but although not officially on the site itself there was a long flat path that went all round the racecourse with access paths across the track to a woodland area and the canal with loads of bins dotted around handy for dog walkers. The path was great for cycling or running as well.
The facilities were not modern but were very clean. In the ladies there were 3 showers and 2 sinks with privacy curtains. The showers were hot and powerful. However as the shower curtains had been removed the area by the door in the cubicle got very wet and it was hard to get dressed and keep things dry.
Most campers seemed to be older people, with only one or two families. There was no playpark or anything for children but loads of space around the racecourse for them to play on bikes etc.
Warwick was a 5-10 min walk from the site as was the castle, lots of little shops, dog friendly cafes and pubs , a car hire place and a Sainsbury's. Sunday lunch at the Tilted Wig pub was good as was breakfast outside the cafe at Hatton locks watching narrowboats navigate the locks.
On the Saturday night there happened to be an outdoor cinema event on at the racecourse. It was held in the field behind the site - just a short walk around the hedge with our camp chairs. We could also see the fireworks from the castle in the evenings.
One day we drove to Diddly Squat, Jeremy Clarkson's farm which was about 45 mins away. My advice would be get there early! It opened at 9:30 we arrived just before opening and queued for an hour. By the time we left the queue had at least doubled.
On Bank holiday Mon we drove to Stratford-upon-Avon, used the park and ride which was efficient. But unfortunately and wished we hadn't bothered going as the town was really crowded with people. Would return during a quieter time as it looked like a lovely place.
On the whole we thought this was a great site, perfect for motorhomes as there was a lot within walking distance. We'd definitely return.
