A Pleasant Surprise

We only live half an hour away and have visited Warwick many times, but have never stayed at the racecourse site until now. I now wish we had now stayed sooner.   You have to drive over the racecourse to enter the site, which we found to be fine, just take it slowly. On arrival the wardens were really friendly and chatty, we had booked an awning pitch. which are all on grass, and we needed our leveling blocks as the pitches are a bit uneven and slope. We were not the only ones,  most of the grass pitches are not very level. The toilet block was modern, very clean and warm and the showers were spacious. We did notice quite a lot of traffic noise especially in the mornings. otherwise the site was fairly quiet, although it would probably be very different on race days. The site is only a few minutes walk from the centre of Warwick and the castle is only an extra 10 minutes away. Outside the site is parkland and a track which goes all the way round the racecourse, great for dog walking. There is also a golf course and driving range.  We walked to Hatton along the towpath, where there is a small cafe and pub for refreshments before the walk back. For children as well as the castle,  St. Nicholas Park is a great place, we often spent whole days there with our boys when they were younger. Now we have stayed here, we wish we had stayed before and have already booked another couple of nights, later in the year.
