Peaceful Site - Watch the handbook directions!

Have just enjoyed a very peaceful stay at Wagtail Country Park. Site is immaculate, as are the toilet facilities. Lake view pitch allowed us to watch a splendid sunrise across the water...very relaxing. Only negative comment, and certainly not the sites fault, are the directions in the CC handbook which, when travelling Northbound on the A1, advise you to turn right where signposted for Marston and Barkston. This would have meant us crossing the Southbound carriageway on a Friday afternoon/evening with a caravan from a standing start.....definately not advisable. It was far better to continue Northbound and leave the A1 at Foston to rejoin Southbound so that you are turning left where signposted for Marston and Barkston, far safer that way. Additionally there is no mention in the handbook of a 5pm latest check in that we were told about when booking. However this did not spoil a very pleasant visit to this site.

Super site

Have just returned from 6 nights at Wagtail and have to say it is one of the nicest sites we have been on for a long time. Wardens very pleasant and helpful. Site immaculate and toilets the same. Well done cant wait to return for another visit.

You get what you pay for!

Excellent site with excellent staff.  Probably the most expensive we have used in recent times but as the title says....  Lovely views of lake, excellent dog walk and great location for those aviation buffs who want to go and see old planes.  Only criticism is that, despite the sign asking them not to, fishermen from the lake insisted on walking through our pitch (motorhome with no awning) to go to the toilet block.  Intrusive!

Generally good.

As novice caravaners my husband and I have just returned from this site. Things we liked: Peace and quiet Tidy and well kept Watching the wildlife  Things we didnt like: A little too far from the lake, even though we were 'lake view' Being charged 20p for the toilet block hairdryers that don't stay on long enough to dry a fringe You can hear the A1, not oppressive but it is there sadly. Overall, enjoyable and relaxing if you have a dog and no kids.

Thank you

I have just returned from a very pleasant and relaxing week based at this site and want to congratulate the owners and staff for the excellent facilities they offer. Although an affiliated site it certainly matches the generally high standards of club owned sites and in some ways exceeds them. Extremely friendly and well maintained with excellent attention to detail and good sized pitches. The only criticism and in NO WAY the fault of the owners and staff, are of the small minority of visitors who seem to think that requirements to have dogs on leads and to 'pick up' after them does not apply to them! The dogs walks are excellent, well maintained and lovely views, only spoiled by a few inconsiderate dog owners! Leaving it on the ground is bad enough, but why anyone would actually pick it up and then hang the 'poo bag' in the tree is beyond my understanding! Also worthy of mention is the environmentally sensible approach to 'grey water' waste which other club sites could learn from. All in all a lovely site so thank you for an enjoyable week.

Recent Visit

Stayed here several times. Our pitch was near the new shower block which made our stay excellent. Sandra was her usual efficient and helpful self, we look forward to visiting again.

OK But

Nice peaceful site but do not get to choose your own pitch, and the shower block is antiquated with a push button you have to press every few seconds or the shower stops, not up to the usual club standards would not return again.

Won't be going back!

This site is lovely, especially if you like fishing.  Ideal location for us as we don't live far away, so perfect for a weekend get away......but be warned receptionist is very unfriendly, so we won't be going back! If your face doesn't fit she makes it known. So don't upset her because she will make your stay uncomfortable. It's a campsite and people are there to chill.

Never again

Agree with everything Andy said , Wi-Fi is a total rip off , pitch I had was awful in between 2 lodges and when asked to move seemed like a big problem, well sorry I don't have a caravan to sit between 2 lodges.

4 nights of bliss

We stayed at Wagtail country park for 2 reasons, the first because of its location, close to the A1 and the second because we were meeting people over near Skegness. Although the park is within 400mts of the A1 due to the trees there is very little road noise. We were met by very friendly and helpful staff who couldn't do enough to help. The place is very picturesque which makes it very easy to relax and just watch the world go by. We do not fish but we enjoyed watching. As we were over the far side (pitch 65) the new toilets and showers were superb, spotless and warm. We will definitely be going back and would definitely recommend it for breaking up a long journey.
