Peaceful at Troutbeck Head

A large well kept site with friendly staff and excellent facilities. Peace and quiet was the order of the day and the site didn't disappoint. Good super pitches at a little extra cost, although no WIFI was a miss (understand it's on the way). Fish & chip van on Tuesdays and Fridays makes a nice change from eating out or cooking. Anyone with dogs will like the woodland walk at the top of the site. All in all a nice stay.

A place to revisit

A great location in a comfortable and clean site run by friendly helpful staff. Great pub type restaurant close by as well as many places to visit. Would have welcomed an on site bar as we're now getting spoilt with the sites that can offer dining closer by, however this would definitely not deter us from revisiting.

Enjoyed Troutbeck Head

Fantastic location, setting for lovers of the outdoors. Good site with good layout. Two dog walks. Three minute drive from Troutbeck Inn serving fine food (£13.95 for most main meals) and real ales. Only criticism of caravan site was poor flush on toilets. Been before and I'd like to go again.

10th visit

just spent another week at this top site,we used the bottom toilet block which was always very clean.but why no under floor heating in the gents toilets. Are the wardens under instructions to turn the heating off at a certain time of the year. The foyer was very warm but it would be better if the heat was directed into the toilets.

A Favourite Site

Stayed for three nights at the beginning of May, on route for Scotland. We have visited several times before but always on a service pitch. This time as it was only a few days we tried the other half of the site with standard pitches. This area is more sheltered than the service area with good views of the hills. It even has an O2 phone signal, which is not available in the service pitch section. Site roads are fairly narrow in this area and it would be difficult to place the van on the pitch without doing damage to the grass, which was very soft, without a power mover, which fortunately we have. A good 2 hour walk can be taken directly from the site into the Matterdale Forest (replanted after felling) and on to Matterdale end, about 5 miles circuit. As the weather was not really good enough for hill walking we also visited Acorn Bank (National Trust) and Brougham Castle (English Heritage) both a short distance east of Penrith off the A66. Both well worth a visit.

Fantastic Fantastic 2nd visit

Having stayed here the weekend before we decided to fit in cheeky bank holiday get away 2 visits in a week and can't rave enough about how great this site is. It was full and you never felt that it was over crowded, the showers were spotless at all times the underfloor heating much appreciated on a cold morning , the wardens were fantastic, helpful and took a lot of pride in the site which shows as its immaculate. We can't wait to return!!

Extremely well run site.

What a great site. Kept very clean and the shower blocks were a good temperature which was great in the unseasonable snow we encountered at the very end of April ! Couldn't get a TV signal but they held a stock of cables for £15 so we could plug directly into the post - great signal for a must watch end-of-series programme :) Will be handy on other club sites as well. A bit beyond a walk to the nearest pub and well away from town but nicely located generally.

Shame about the neighbours

Great location for access to North Lakes, and local amenities. The site facilities were kept up to the clubs usual high standard of cleanliness although the showers are looking a bit tired! The main downfall is the noise from the activity centre next door to the site, with clay pigeon shooting and off-road quads racing around, mainly at weekends though, l must point out.

A Great Site

My wife and I have just visited this site for the first time and we were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and the site and facilities were spotless. The weather was very kind to us but even if not, the serviced pitches were perfect well draining and flat. A perfect break for peace and quiet and we can't wait to return
