A slice of heaven

We stayed for 14 nights at this marvellous site and our only complaint was the weather. This improved dramatically for the second week reaching the high twenties for five days. We cycled from the site onto local routes which were incredibly scenic. The highlight of these was the C2C route which goes from Keswick to Threlkeld on an old railway track and is the most cycle friendly and scenic cycle path we have ever cycled. As usual the Staff were friendly, welcoming and hardworking. The site is well laid out and the views are excellent as are the facilities. Easy access from a main road off the A66 is a bonus and Penrith is a perfect trip for all your shopping needs. We travelled 290 miles to visit this site for the second time and we will no doubt repeat the journey again for all it has to offer.

No peace.

Too many dogs with irresponsible owners. I was surrounded by reactive dogs called stopit and bequiet. It was awful. Couldn't wait to leave. If you want a peaceful stay. Don't go here or Clumber Park that was worse.

Pitch allocation issue

In March we booked a fully serviced pitch for one week however on the 20th May we received a call stating that the fully serviced pitches were out of action and that the only availability was for 5 nights on a standard pitch starting on the 27th May. As we were meeting family members who were staying close by, 5 nights was unsuitable so we tried to find availability elsewhere. Later the same day we received another call saying that they’d received a cancellation for the weekend so could now offer 7 nights on a standard pitch which we gladly accepted. On arrival at the site I asked whether the fully serviced pitches were still out of action and was told that they were. Having had a wander around the site later in the evening we found that only a small proportion of the pitches were unavailable so felt aggrieved that we had been removed from our booked pitch, The following day I asked a staff member if they knew why our booking had been changed when most of the pitches were available but they couldn’t provide a reason.

Comment from the Club:

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent booking experience with us. We truly value your perspective and would like to offer further insight into the circumstances surrounding the changes to your reservation.

Due to ongoing electrical work on the campsite, the site staff had to block 10 service pitches, which are still currently unavailable. We anticipate the completion of these works by the end of next week.

In response to the high demand during the bank holiday weekend, we regrettably had to cancel the bookings on those 10 serviced pitches, selecting the ones with the most recent booking dates. This situation led us to offer hardstanding pitches without awnings, as availability was limited due to full occupancy during that period.

We understand your disappointment with the initial change to a 5-night stay on a standard pitch. However, upon a subsequent cancellation, we were able to extend the offer to 7 nights on a standard pitch, taking into consideration the evolving availability.

The weather that weekend was wet and windy which may well have caused some people to cancel / not turn up, which would have shown empty pitches. Unfortunately we can not be aware of no shows until they happen and we apologise for the disappointment.

Please know that we always strive to provide the best possible experience for our members, and your feedback helps us improve our services. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back under better circumstances in the future.

Depends on your preference.......

If you want to sit and and enjoy the scenery this is a great site. The disadvantage for us is that you have to drive to get anywhere, particularly if you want to walk the fells, which may not be an issue for some. The site is generally quiet and peaceful. With some good views. Exceptions being: The activity centre next door during the daytime. Though this could be lessened by choosing a pitch further away. Children racing on their bikes in particular areas of the site. No I am not a killjoy - it is an accident waiting to happen as they certainly wouldn't be able to stop in time were they to come upon a car or outfit pulling out. The toilet block has been refurbished (not the customary cream) and is spotlessly clean. The wardens are helpful and friendly. They keep the site clean and tidy. Some of the pitches have large pools of water if it rains heavy. Not ideal to step into coming out of your 'van. It's horses for courses. While I can see many people enjoying and returning to the site it's not the one for me.

Excellent site

Only stayed for one night en route to Scotland on the North Coast 500 - it was in a good location just off the M6 to break the drive up. The site was in a lovely setting, peaceful, good for walking the dog, the facilities were spotless and it would be a great base to get out and about in the Northern Lakes.

Tranquil Stay with Exceptional Facilities and Perfect Location

The Campsite is a fantastic destination. The facilities are great! There is a games room with a pool, a huge Connect 4, and information about the local area. Great M6 connectivity. The campsite is impeccably maintained, with pristine facilities (showers, toilets and wash up area looked brand new!) and exceptionally welcoming staff. (even when booked in on the wrong day :-P ) The van pitch I had was with with EHU pitch was great. The site provided a peaceful stay, free from any disturbances from the nearby Rookin House activity centre. The convenience of getting to the M6, Penrith, and Keswick makes this site a must-return for me. The hill opposite is a great-looking walk, with views of Blencathra and the hills! Highly recommended for a memorable stay. Lord Adams ;-)

Brilliant site slightly off the beaten track

An absolutely brilliant site which has top notch facilities just off the beaten track. Lovely views of hills and mountains and a lovely stream running through the site. Worth noticing the activity centre next door which can make some noise in daylight hours - only one which caused us an issue was shooting which scared our dog. Other than that brilliant 👍 If you stay, take a wander to Harry’s Bench - top tip! David & Rachel👍

Wonderful site with excellent facilities and easy access to the M6

This is an excellent site which is really well maintained. The facilities are spotless and the staff are really friendly. There’s a lovely dog walk available on site. We stayed on the fully serviced pitches which is further away from the nearby Rookin House activity centre so had no noise at all from them. We will definitely be back as access to the M6, Penrith and Keswick is super easy. The Troutbeck Inn up the road is excellent the food is delicious and the staff are very welcoming and friendly.
