Magnificent sunsets, splendid setting to relax and just soak in the peace and tranquility of it all, lovely but be aware of the wind!!
This is the first time we have stayed here and on recommendations of a friend we arrived knowing first hand that we may not be able to erect our awning, however, we were pleasantly surprised to find the superb scene as we approached the site from first instance. The moment we turned into the lane we just wanted to pitch up and stay for a very long time. In fact, i bagged the last slot for an extra day so our stay would be till the Sunday, 9 days, fabulous. The site itself was not as you would see elsewhere, picket fencing, immaculately weeded beds and flower pots, indeed it was the complete opposite, left to appear as if it was natural and we had parked up along the coast. Absolutely wonderful to just park up and soak in the view - natural wonders of the sea, coastline, and differing colours of the sky. We were lucky, we enjoyed a good week Friday to Friday and then the wind came. We had purposely bought a storm kit earlier in the week from the site shop, as having seen then on sale, prominently on good show, I wondered that there must be a good reason why and had nagged the husband to make sure he bought one. Low and behold, despite searching the weather numerous occasions and deciding when possible the best time would be to take down the awning, the appropriate time never came in the end.Very unpredictable!! We had no option but to keep the awning up - I didn't sleep my husband managed to - and when the great gusts came, they certainly came. We were rocking!!! 2.30 a.m. we were both out there, struggling, holding on for dear life. Neighbours came to our rescue, many cars left the site in the midst of it all - campers from the top field mostly. Needless to say, we need to either buy a new awning or manage to buy spare parts. Just so as to give you a better picture of it, my husband, all of 19.5 stone, was lifted into the air!! I missed it! I was too busy holding on! Anyway, this was Plot 70, and the people around us, although endured the same wind, didn't seem to get it so bad. The view from this plot is lovely - just be mindful to not put up an awning, unless you are prepared to go without if necessary. (as advised by the club leaflet, they say awnings are note advisable - this isn't useful if you turn up with a family and need to use an awning, perhaps this should be something that is mentioned in the general write up of the site, forewarned and all that). The toilet block facilities, although dated, very clean and the washing facilities - first time ever used them - good enough - no ironing board for those who need to use one or iron for that matter. The temporary toilets at the top are serviceable but if I had the misfortune of having to stay at the very hilly top field, I'd take the long walk down to the toilet block. Wonderful site though, returning because I loved it!! Oh by the way, the cream scones from the shop and the pasties are worth buying, enjoyed them immensely.
