Ignore the critics!
Some of the feedback was so negative that we very nearly cancelled our booking so as to avoid disappointment. Thank goodness we didn't! Just about all the criticisms and moans were found to be unjustified - what do people expect?? The site is in a fabulous location with direct access to beautiful parklands and the Tredegar. House NT property. No one mentioned the interesting selection of shops in the grounds, nor included the fact that there's a lovely cafe open all day serving a range of light meals and drinks - and dogs are allowed inside.
The pitches are very generous in all areas and there's plenty of choice in terms of shady areas from mature trees, or very sunny pitches. We were on a service pitch and there are only 4 of these, so not too much choice, but that wasn't a problem. The toilet and shower block tiles may not be today's colour choice, but they were immaculate at all times of the day and certainly no question of them not being thoroughly cleaned every day.
We had taken dvds in case of poor TV reception, but I don't know where on site those who have complained were, because our reception was perfect - and we were able to choose the BBC site from England rather than the Welsh language. As far as the wifi was concerned, it was better than on 4 sites we've been on so far this year - admittedly not superfast fibre, but you could download your newspaper in an acceptable time, and we were also surprised to get enough speed to watch the end of the cricket test match live!
The info on this site states quite clearly that the proximity of the M4 means there's some traffic noise, but it was less noticeable than we were expecting. Not sure why one review complained that the grass hadn't been cut - it was certainly all neat and tidy this weekend.
So, do be cautious about how much notice you take of some of the reviews. If we had cancelled our booking on the basis of some of them, we'd have missed a treat!
