Yearly visit to this site

We have been to Thirsk site several times and always enjoy our stay. The facilities are always clean and tidy although as we get older I find the showers a little difficult to use as they are very small and the step up into the shower tray is quite considerable. As there are no handrails in the showers I find it hard to get into and out of them specially when the feet are wet. My husband is registered disable and on this visit we borrowed the key so we were able to use the disabled bathroom. However this was in great demand so on several occasions I used the showers in the ladies instead of waiting for the disabled one to come vacant. We also found in this visit the grass on the site seemed to be longer than usual so when it rained our feet and bottom of trousers got very wet. All this said we did enjoy our visit, the wardens were helpful and friendly and we will be back next year.

Lovely camp site but....

Lovely camp site in a lovely location Thirsk is very picturesque. We tried this site as we enjoy the races but unfortunately we were informed that we would have to move off the site onto an adjacent field the day before the races ( which hasn't got hook up which we do need) you can move back onto the site ( which is the course car park ) after the races but this seems a bit of an inconvenience. cant be helped as the site doesn't belong the the c club. But if this doesn't bother you I can recommend this site and we would definitely visit this site again on non race days.

a very enjoyable weekend

We have stayed at Thirsk Racecourse many times before. during this stay it was a race weekend and it rained! The new wardens had their work cut out for them but they managed perfectly. the pitches are on grass, so for motor homes this can be difficult. There is some road noise as behind the site is a long road which attracts speeding cars, but having being in the centre of town makes up for that. There is 3 lovely butchers shops selling the best in local meats, as well as pubs selling meals, restaurants and other local shops. we always enjoy the weekend and not forgetting the social club for a pint or two! I have heard some people complain about the showers being small, but remember they are clean and lashings of hot water.

We LOVE Thirsk!

We've recently returned from our annual visit to Thirsk Racecourse site and thoroughly enjoyed it as usual. The new wardens are very friendly and helpful but are also just as happy to let you get on with your stay, especially if they know you have been before. As has been mentioned, there is lots of traffic noise and you do get the lorries unloading at Lidl late at night hence my 2 star rating for peace and quiet, but hey, you are in the centre of a town. What else can you expect? The facilities are clean and all in all great value for what you pay. The location is what matters, 5 minutes walk into the centre of Thirsk with all it's lovely shops and pubs, easy access to the A19 and A1, York, the coast and North York Moors within easy reach. I do however have one minor complaint. Since last season, the taps on all of the service points have been replaced by domestic ( household ) taps. This means that the hoses for our aquaroll fillers will not attach to the taps and you have to stoop holding them while you fill your aquaroll. The hose is missing off the tap at the chemical waste disposal point too which means you are having to pick up the cassette and hold it up to the tap...... Not ideal, I think you will agree. You are also unable to rinse out your wastemaster because of the same issue. This isn't a major issue but could ideally be looked at. However, it certainly won't stop us coming back to Thirsk!

Good site

Just returned after 2 day break at Thirsk Racecourse site. We enjoyed our stay there Tesco and Lido supermarkets close to the site. The town has cobbled streets and friendly feel. The three tuns pub very good for meal. The facilities were clean, the wardens friendly, if you park closer to reception road noise not as noticeable.

Not the best site we have visited

Stayed over at this site for 2 nights on our way to Scotland in May 2016. We have stayed on better Racecourse affiliated sites. This one has no hardstanding pitches and the shower block was not up to the standard we normally expect. Very handy for the town and the Herriot Museum but apart from this we felt that the site was only just adequate as a stopover.

Only overnight

To be honest this site was not what I expect of the CC. Nothing more than a green car park, very noisy from local traffic and we won't bother going back.
