Norfolk's hidden delight
This was our third visit to this site and once again we have had a really good stay. The wardens are extremely helpful and friendly, offering advice and help, the site is immaculate and the layout great for privacy and a peaceful stay. We have a rescue dog who is wary of other dogs and so the ability to walk into the Forest straight from the site is an absolute bonus. The site has interest as the WW2 base for the Desert Rats, and the Forest itself stretches for miles around. Lots of places to explore within a short drive and one of the best stretches of coast in the country about an hour away at Holkham. Perhaps this site wouldn't suit families who need indoor activities for children when the weather isn't kind - but of like us you enjoy peace, quiet and lots of 'nature' right around your caravan, then this site is just the thing.
We took the warden's advice on the effect of several days of recent rain and pitched on a hard standing area rather than in one of the grassy glades which we had previously chosen. Our caravan had chosen this particular morning to break its movers - so the ease of reversing onto a lovely flat pitch at the first attempt was a real bonus. Add day long sunshine for our entire stay (yes, it was April 2016) and we could not have been better suited. The layout of the site, thanks to the hard work of the Desert rats, means that each pitch is next to a slice of forest - so much so that deer and squirrels are frequent visitors and can be watched from the comfort of the 'van. Bring books, binoculars, wine and nibbles and settle back into those cushions!
