Site needs a re-think

Location of site is perfect and within easy walking distance to town and Abbey. Having said that we found the site a bit of a letdown. Although the site has recently been refurbished there is still some work to be done, eg planting of shrubs etc., but this was delayed due to the foul weather earlier in the year, so no-one’s fault, but the layout of the site certainly needs some re-thinking! Some parts of the site were too open and resembled a field with vans scattered about and not of the normal CC&M standard, although hopefully this will be different once the shrubs have been planted separating the areas. The serviced pitches seemed to be mainly circled round the amenities block, and pitches which backed onto it were far too close, which wasn’t a pleasant experience for some apparently!!! At the other side of the block is the motorhome service point, but the road separates it from the block, which means it’s too near the rear of pitches, especially when some, not all, inconsiderate motorhomers leave their engines ticking over while re-filling etc., causing fumes, which is not good for anyone sat outside their van! A wire fence has been placed across the back of pitches 71-73 to stop people cutting between vans, but the fence stops short after 73 so the strip of grass between pitches 74 and 75 was in constant use as a short cut through to the toilet block, with some people even cutting across hardstandings while sat out! Pitch 76 was also used as a rat-run with people walking right across the hardstanding and infront of the awning. So rude! In all fairness to the wardens they did their best and put some chain link between 74 and 75 to deter people from using the grass strip, but of course some thought it didn’t apply to them, so ignored it and just climbed over the chain fence anyway! Hopefully this will be resolved when the unfinished work has been completed. The facilities were spot on, with the newly built amenities block which was kept clean by the wardens, and we found the wardens were always very friendly and helpful.
