Spoilt

Visited in June. This has always been a regular favourite for a local few days away. However, for 2022 the vast and magnificent dog exercise field has been replaced with new pitches. I witnessed a former warden debating this development with the Area Manager and pleading that they maintain the very popular dog field, but to no avail. The changes have been made and the site has been spoilt. Just 20 pitches have been placed in the former dog area - the remainder of this field is a large 'no mow' zone, which is merely an excuse for not maintaining this previously attractive and natural area. In addition, there is a huge run-off drainage pond surrounded by an ugly fence. If I wanted to pitch my outfit in an area of wasteland, I certainly would not pay Club prices! The site had, and has always, been popular with dog owners and now, the only place to 'walk the dog' is along a miniscule section of path that goes no where and is 20ft long - completely useless! The washroom facilities are clean, and well maintained. There is a request bus stop outside the site which will take you into town within 5 minutes, alternatively it is possible to walk and takes approx 25 minutes across the aquaduct, where there are plenty of shops/cafes/take-aways. Unfortunately, the very popular mobile fish and chip van no longer frequents the site. The site is adjacent to the main road so there can be some traffic noise. There is also occasionally noise/shoutings heard from the nearby Deerfoot Detention Centre. A great shame but this site has slipped off of our list of favourites.
