Perfect Location for Touring the North East

This site is a hidden gem. Although there is a little road noise we found it barely noticeable. It is ideal for visiting local attractions and larger cities alike, with good access to major roads. Barnard Castle as a town is quaint and to coin a phrase "unspoilt by progress". It has an obvious charm about it. the local townsfolk greet each other as they pass on the footpaths' nd almost everyone was welcoming to us. Dogs were welcomed in some but not all tea-rooms. A large Morrisons lurks just off the Main Street. The site itself is clean and laid out well. The amount of gravel on our hardstanding was excessive and without a MM it would have meant we could not have pitched at all. In the end I ran the jockey over field grip-mats. Toilet block was clean and was not closed too long for cleaning. Water and waste points were fine. The dog field was a useful addition - big enough to properly exercise our dog - and with several dog-waste bins. The exit barrier seems to open if you drove at it and did not need a token to be raised. Walking , or cycling is the only way to really see some parts of B/Castle. Immediately next to the lower pedestrian gate is a start of a woodland walk that goes down to the stream. Turning left takes you along it to the Silver Bridge that leads into another nature reserve, or uphill into the town itself. We found the staff to be very friendly from greeting to leaving. The experience was enjoyable and we hopefully will return there. Highly recommended site and highly recommended venue.
