Great site for 'Barnie'

First visited this site when it originally opened as a brand new caravan club site about 7 years ago. Everything was a bit raw then, even the grass turf still needed watering to stop it curling up. Now, the site has matured superbly with wonderful bushes and shrubbery, and the hedge along the roadside has thickened a bit but still allows a bit of traffic noise for the pitches closest to the road. A fairly recent addition is the very large rough grassy field for the Dog Walk, with mown pathways around and across the field. Superb, and one of the best for dogs - very safe. There is the public footpath to Barnard Castle close by which sadly is still accessed by a very unfriendly and potentially dangerous and steep sideways sloping path to a steep drop. Once down that 'scramble' the main public pathway follows the river but is a bit narrow and overgrown with tall bogland plants - no views and not really attractive which is probably why most walkers seemed to choose to go by the main road instead! It is a great pity but much easier and safer actually! Barnard Castle is always busy, always chock-a-block with cars, but is one of our favourite stops boasting lots of superb shops, but watch out for the Pay-and-Display parking at Morrisons !!! And the Bowes Museum (in Barnard Castle itself) is great value for multiple visits all in the cost of one ticket for a year of visits, and FREE car parking. We will be back - and sooner than another 7 years.
