we booked this site as a one night "test" to see if it was suitable as a short journey stop for weekends not too far from home. The site is very well maintained and the facilities were excellent, this is the first CC site we have stayed on in our Motorhome and if this is the standard of upkeep to go by then we would happily stay on others going forward. The pitch we was on was 16, good size and next to the gate for exit to walk to Barnard Castle, however take care as you do walk down the roadside for approx. 500 yards, cut through onto the large bridge that takes you through the woods to the town, it is a lot easier and safer. We have stayed on many other sites, some CL's and of course independent, some which have been as equal value. The site is very handy for walking into Barnard Castle, with very good dog walking areas (off site) that allow your four legged friend to get suitably tired and happy. The only downside for the dog walking on site is that it is very small and really only a double pitch size toilet area! (fenced off and well maintained) so not really a dog walk. I believe there is a larger field available but we were unsure of its usage. If you use the site for the first time be prepared for (what we felt) is a frosty or even abrupt welcome from the elderly lady upon the desk, and I use the word "welcome" advisedly, maybe we hit a bad moment, a couple of times. Having said that, they kept the site very well, the area was spotless and everything works as it should. We would stay again and thank the wardens for an uncomplicated stay.
