Excellent Site - We'll Be Back !

I don't know why we've never caravanned in Northumberland before, but even a short stay at Teesdale Barnard Castle Club site has been enough to show us what we've been missing. Access to the site is easy from either the A66 or A67, using a good minor road, and first impressions as you arrive are of a very pretty, spacious and well maintained site with scenic views from many pitches. The initial reception and welcome was warm and helpful, with information about the site and also local places of interest. Finding a pitch was straightforward, and these are well cared for and for the most part generally level. Water, power and refuse disposal is close at hand for all pitches. The shower/toilet block is modern, more than meets the numbers using it, and is spotlessly cleaned and maintained. The site is within easy driving or walking distance of Barnard Castle itself, a pretty and interesting town with a good range of shopping as well as attractive places to eat and drink. Parking is particularly visitor-friendly. On the weekend of our stay the town was holding a "War Weekend" , which featured vintage cars, military vehicles and a "camp" which included tents, a First Aid post, Officers HQ and a very popular "cookhouse" serving hearty dishes. There were many enthusiasts in replica uniform and war-time clothing, and even the town shops got into the act with staff also dressed for the occasion and 1940's music playing - great fun and spectacle for the many visitors. The site is also close to a range of castles and museums, including Barnard Castle, and there are many lovely walks close by or within easy reach. We found all those we met were extremely friendly and welcoming - a fine advert for the area. This was a most enjoyable first visit, made even better by lovely sunny weather, and we can easily see this site becoming one of our favourites, with regular stays in the future.
