Good for families

Busy site.

We decided to book for 4 nights on the way from Scotland, we only stayed for 3, and cancelled our Sunday night stop on a Friday morning but this didn't stop us getting caught out by the 72hour rule!! The site isn't too hard to find, but it is on a very busy road, and some pitches overlook a prison, once the trees grow this will improve. The woodland walk into Barnard castle was very muddy, and comes out on a bad bend on a busy road so could be dangerous. We found crossing by the site, better and walking straight down the verge which is partly pavemented quicker, cleaner and a safer place to cross. The fascilities and staff were lovely, the help with directions one of the lady wardens gave me back to the A66 was spot on. Barnard Castle is a nice town, but all other attractions are a good drive away. We did find it a very busy site, so doubt it will become one of our favourites. We found a lot of dog owners use this site, and they don't all use the dog walk as we saw dogs being aloud to muck on pitches, this is bad owners not site problem. Also we did wonder why we had a lot of flies in our awning until we found a dead baby rat under the awning skirt!! We did report and my husband cleared it up. You can expect vermin sometimes but it a first for us.
