A Most Helpful Warden

We booked a one night stopover at Barnard Castle on Friday 8 September to break our journey traveling north. The site was very nice with spacious modern pitches and good facilities in the amenity block including a drying room. What has prompted me to post a review was not just the site but the wardens. Yes, they work hard to make our stay pleasant and often take some stick for things people arn't happy with but my experience here of things that went wrong and the help I was given made me decide to post a review. This was not a problem with the site though. All was going well on the morning tow up the A1 until the overhead matrix boards started to show "A66 Closed" I didn't know then what had happened but a 67 tonne excavator had fallen off a transport lorry blocking the road in both directions and it wasn't going to be cleared for some time. As massive queues built up it began to look like a job for International Rescue. I know the A1 well but not the local roads around it so decided to pull off and find a stopping place to check the map for alternative routes. I had only been in the layby for a few minutes when my mobile rang, it was the lady warden from Barnard Castle to advise me of the access problem via the A66. She asked me which direction I was approaching from and gave me the best alternative route to get through to the site. She said she was calling all the arrivals that morning to make them aware of the problem. This was fantastic help when I was stuck with a lack of knowledge of the local roads. I followed the advised route along with the unavoidable congestion which added about two hours to our journey but we got through to the site in the best time possible. I hope the powers that be in our club administration note the help and dedication that this lady was providing to the members affected by the traffic disruption. A bad experience dissipated by unexpected help. A big thank you to the warden. FAB.
