Lovely site, close enough for us to walk to town & new pitches are lovely

We arrived just after 1 to a very efficient entry and to a very beautiful site. Very clean facilities. We followed the walk to Town and then also the more steep route via the trees. We had a wonderful meal in Babuls and were so glad we had booked. First time here and Barnard Castle was beautiful. Next time i will make sure that we stay a bit longer and when market day is on. Thank you for a wonderful couple of days and nights.

lovely site

We have just spent 8 nights at this site. When we arrived there was only a few pitches available but it was not a problem. We were not far from the road but it didn't bother us. My husband did say the cassette toilet emptying was not the best as the hose was very short and we didn't use the facilities so couldn't comment on them. Like all camp sites we had dogs barking which we find annoying when the owner does nothing about it. We were near a caravan that had 7 dogs in there and thought we would have a problem but they were as good as gold, just the occasional woof when another went past. I did wonder though what the policy was as I thought there was a limit of 3 dogs allowed on site. The site is within walking distance of Barnard Castle but with a slim footpath. I use a mobility scooter so was unable to use the path but its a short drive so not a problem. It is in a lovely location and the wardens were lovely. If we were to be in the area again we would certainly go back. It was a lovely holiday and we had great weather so that helped

Great site and helpful staff

We stayed at Barnard Castle site back on 11th and 12th June, booked as a mid break stopover after staying at CL sites the previous week and following week. This site was excellent, facilities were what we expected, clean and well maintained. We also used the laundry facilities. We had choices of pitches when arriving just after 13:00, strictly no access before although site was full that night. Walked into Barnard Castle which was fine using directions provided. We had issues with our Campervan when leaving and needed RAC breakdown, only realised after handing in our key. The site team were excellent, allowed us to stay on a spare pitch and use the hook up until breakdown people arrived, very good customer service (van just needed a computer reset). We'd definitely stay here again when back in the area.

First visit, great site

This was our first visit. Easy to get to and a short walk into the town for shops, bars, restaurants and cafes has convinced us it will be a favourite for future visits. Great dog walking through forest, with circular walks available to villages. We were parked away from road (down by the site dog walk, which is tiny!) and weren't bothered by road noise. Facilities block is clean and the showers have plenty of room and hot water. Pitches are big, some on a slight level. Would recommend

Word of caution for those with mobility issues

Lovely site located close to lovely town. Information provided says short walk to town, it is but you need to be ambulant to do this. I asked at reception about suitable route for my wife who uses a mobility scooter, was told don't follow footpath but leave site by gate nearest town, then cross footbridge at bottom of hill. However immediately through gate are two steps unsuitable for scooter, and bridge has six steps at either side. There is a route across the road bridge further down but involves a narrow section of road with no pavement, also first 400yds from site have no pavement, grass verge does have plastic lattice but looks like it will be muddy in wet weather. We decided it was not really practical to use mobility scooter so took motorhome into town instead. Above for information and not as a criticism. Would be quite happy to revisit in future. Wife did comment that disabled shower and toilet were amongst the best she has used at CMC site.

Bank Holiday Sunday 50% empty

We stay at this lovely site quiet often ? In fact Friday and Sunday this week. Can not fault the Wardens . Questions need to be asked with C&mHC about why this site is only 50% occupied on a.bank holiday Sunday . A clue could be that the £40 a night fees are putting caravaners off . Surely in these difficult financial times the Club.could do more to help members. Jumping on the "Cost of Energy excuse" dosnt hold water. Great site but too expensive.

Lovely Site and Town

Had 2 nights here with our small dog. Warm and chatty welcome, Pitches spacious, well maintained site with new plants and grass still establishing. There was a tiny bit of road noise as we were quite close, but nothing to spoil our stay. All facilities were very clean. Walk into town was nice thru' the Nature Reserve woods, took app 30 mins. I think you could also walk in the opposite direction towards another village, so we will explore this when we return. Plenty of small shops and eating places to choose from. Only improvements would be to the Dog area - make an entrance at each end and cut the long grass so its easier to pick up. Will return soon 🙂🙂🐕‍🦺

Could be our favourite

This was our first visit to the site, which is in the beautiful north of England, and it exceeded our expectations on so many levels. Easy to get to and a short walk into the town for shops, bars, restaurants and cafes has convinced us it will be a favourite for future visits. There are two routes into the town, one alongside the road and the other through a lovely forest. We did both, but because we had a dog, decided we preferred the forest route. Some previous reviewers mention road noise but believe me you won't notice it. The facilities block is clean and the showers have plenty of room and hot water. Pitches are big and level but take some rock pegs for awnings because the base material is well compacted. The staff are amazing and will always try to help (thank you Brian and Sue!). Overall, an exceptional site.

Lovely Site

Enjoyed our first stay on this site. Facilities were very clean and accessible. Staff were very welcoming , friendly and informative. Ideal location to tour a beautiful part of Durham, and also nice walk into Barnard Castle itself. Lovely walk through a pleasant wooded area , ideal for our Dog. Noise from the roads didn’t bother us at all.

Ideal location

This site is ideally situated for accessing the town. It’s only a short walk and the town has lots of pubs , restaurants and fish and chips shops. The staff on site are friendly and helpful. It was poor weather , rainy , and our pitch was flooded due to poor drainage. The pitches are well spaced out and it’s an attractive site. There is some road noise but not much.
