Another Delightful Site

It is easy to take club sites for granted. This one is another winner. Warm welcome, modern facilities and spotless. Great location for walking and, of course, a stroll into town. A winning recipe. There are worse things than a ropey internet connection, aren't there?

Lovely site

First time staying at CAMC site, site is maintained to a very high standard, staff extremely welcoming and helpful. Facilities immaculate. Pitches a very good size, we pitched on the 'new for 2022' area. Ideal location to explore Barnard Castle and surrounding area. Looking forward to returning in the future.

Good

Typical CAMC site. Well run, tidy, clean, but, a bit pricey, even for members. Plenty of walking and cycling opportunities. Approximately 0.5 miles walk to Barnard Castle, for eateries, pubs, and supplies. We will return.

Spoilt

Visited in June. This has always been a regular favourite for a local few days away. However, for 2022 the vast and magnificent dog exercise field has been replaced with new pitches. I witnessed a former warden debating this development with the Area Manager and pleading that they maintain the very popular dog field, but to no avail. The changes have been made and the site has been spoilt. Just 20 pitches have been placed in the former dog area - the remainder of this field is a large 'no mow' zone, which is merely an excuse for not maintaining this previously attractive and natural area. In addition, there is a huge run-off drainage pond surrounded by an ugly fence. If I wanted to pitch my outfit in an area of wasteland, I certainly would not pay Club prices! The site had, and has always, been popular with dog owners and now, the only place to 'walk the dog' is along a miniscule section of path that goes no where and is 20ft long - completely useless! The washroom facilities are clean, and well maintained. There is a request bus stop outside the site which will take you into town within 5 minutes, alternatively it is possible to walk and takes approx 25 minutes across the aquaduct, where there are plenty of shops/cafes/take-aways. Unfortunately, the very popular mobile fish and chip van no longer frequents the site. The site is adjacent to the main road so there can be some traffic noise. There is also occasionally noise/shoutings heard from the nearby Deerfoot Detention Centre. A great shame but this site has slipped off of our list of favourites.

Brilliant site, pity about the members.

Couldn't fault the site or the wardens, 1st class in every sense. Congratulations to you all. The only problem I have here is that the pathways into town from the site seems to get steeper and steeper everytime we visit. Or is it just me getting older. If you've never been you must visit it as it makes a great base to visit the local villages and towns. We drove to Reeth and walked the route around the river, (which has changed course over the years) and came upon the mountain bike event at Grinton which was very spectacular to watch and see the riders going up the nearby hills and traverse across the tops to come back into view covered in mud. An excellent stay.

Wardens of the year

Recent three night stay and as usual the site is well run and the wardens are very welcoming . We like the fact that we are a 10 to 15 minute walk into town and once you pass the first 200 yards on road into Barney the path is in place and you wlll soon be in Barnard Castle if you cross the foot bridge over the Tees and head up hill to the town . Try the Three Horseshoes as a nice place to drink and eat . Plus 149 Chip shop at the top end of the town . We changed pitch for two nights and the wardens were really great and said just let them know the new pitch number . i like the fact they use an electric service tractor and the site is overlooing a lovely valley and toilets are in good order . More people seem to use own facilities so the additional pitches doesnt have much affect on availabilty . The trick is to choose the quiet times to use the showers etc, The layout of the site is good and most pitches have privacy and space . Plenty of service points too . Only negatives that the serviced pitches dont have much of a view and the prices are too high in peak season

Long weekend stay

Arrived on Thursday and left Monday. Site was easy to find and nice welcome on arrival. Lovely site with good facilities and great for walking in to the town. We thought the whole area was really nice and did two 8/9 mile walks. One from Cotherstone (which is 10 minutes drive) and the other from the site. We also went to High Force Waterfall and spent half a day in Richmond. Overall had a great weekend break and would be happy to come back again sometime.

Great site

Second visit to Barnard Castle and enjoyed it just as much both times. The walk into Barnard Castle along the river is lovely and the town is very nice with lots of shops and pubs. Reccomend 3 horseshoes pub and butchers on the corner. Chippy is also good. Good walking options from the site. Will return.

Short stay

Booked in for 3 nights mid July. Got there about 15 minutes early as there is usually a queue, and got promptly turned away by the wardens. I don’t mind this as the earliest booking time is 1.00pm, I just wish there was a bit of consistency between the sites as the last site we went too had a queue forming at 12.30 !. The site is in good condition but I feel there are not enough toilets and showers now they have the extra pitches. The wardens were okay, but that was about it. I did get told I was getting the evils by one of them because I was chatting with their partner, not what I expected because I was just asking for directions into town. I would go back to this site because I think the town is great, but there are other sites dotted around that are more welcoming for sure. Just one final point for pet owners, the dog walk is very low quality.

Lovely site, close enough for us to walk to town & new pitches are lovely

We arrived just after 1 to a very efficient entry and to a very beautiful site. Very clean facilities. We followed the walk to Town and then also the more steep route via the trees. We had a wonderful meal in Babuls and were so glad we had booked. First time here and Barnard Castle was beautiful. Next time i will make sure that we stay a bit longer and when market day is on. Thank you for a wonderful couple of days and nights.
