Brilliant location shame about the serviced pitches

This is a really nice site and Barnard Castle is lovely. The only problem seems to be the interpretation of the meaning of the description of a serviced pitch .On arrival O was directed to the serviced pitches and started to get set up but when I tried to connect to the water supply O realised that e distance from tap to ban was about 5 Myra more than my supply hose rather than each pitch having a tap it was 2 taps on 1 post on 1 of the pitches. This means that you can only use the right hand pitch without an extension hose wh I involved buying extra hose from reception but fittings from town . The warden suggested turning the van round further we would have been facing a wall!

Never disappoints

We have stayed here a few times on our way up to Scotland. Great site, very friendly wardens, cleanest toilet block ever and a terrific field for walking the dog. What is not to like.

A warm welcome....

....from a warden was the start of another great break here. Barnard Castle is an attractive town with enough going on to satisfy most folk. Lots of good walking opportunities nearby and a well looked after site to relax on when you get back. The wardens must be commended for their general friendliness and the work they put into keeping the site looking it's best. Not a complaint, but the male facilities could be busy in the mornings so there was occasional queuing for the toilets and showers. We love the area and will definitely be back.

An overdue return visit

This is one of our favourite sites being not too far from home and convenient to the town but in the country too. We are Friends of the Bowes Museum so visit there every time we stay. They have recently increased admission charges to Ā£14 but that allows for free return visits for a year. I'm sure that will put off some people from visiting especially if they are from away. The site is kept immaculately and we were greatly helped by the wardens in finding a quiet pitch for our daughter who has an illness which makes her noise sensitive. It made our holiday. We shall be back again next month.

Beautiful

What a beautiful little site! Quiet, spotless and in amazing countryside with beautiful views of the castle and Tees valley. Very large dog walk field and great for walks right on the doorstep. Really liked that several local walks were in the information room for all to make use of ... rather than selling them for Ā£1.50ish, not a lot I know, but we paid Ā£60+ for the 2 nights and I appreciated this little goodwill gesture. Wardens very friendly and helpful. Will likely return šŸ‘šŸ‘

Immaculate Campsite

Stayed very recently & this is an immaculately kept campsite. Very clean facilities, everything looks beautiful. I don't understand why people bash the Wardens..having stayed on lots of Ckub sites I see the staff wear many hats, Receptionists, cleaners, gardeners, tourist information officers, advisors, handymen (and women), health & safety monitors, to name just a few. And some members want them to be traffic police on top of it! It is up to all of us who use campsites to monitor our own speed & be aware of others, just as we do every day driving on the roads. Instead of doing the Wardens down, be grateful they're there for us & provide an amazing service every day for little reward, both financially and member gratitude!

Great site very well maintained and the best dog walk we have found on any site so far.

This site was very well maintained, grass well trimmed and no signs of any rubbish. Not sure which site the other people were on that left the review on the 19/06! The wardens were very helpful. The dog walk is by far the best we have found on club site so far and again very well maintained pathways kept well and several dog bins. Could not recommend this site more highly. Shame some of the members do not know how to use a toilet brush though! Will Iā€™m sure visit again in the future. Dave and Jan.

Wardens need to up their game - good site but needs looking after

The site is well laid out but does have some road noise if you are on the level with the toilet block, the lower level is much quieter and also has the children's play area. Unfortunately the wardens have changed since our last visit and this shows, disabled toilet floor did not appear to have been cleaned for several days - same piece of debris remained unmoved, also the waste bin (yellow) was not emptied on a daily basis, only twice in a week! Then after someone spilled something on the floor it was mopped (in a fashion) but some of the lotion was left on the grout between the tiles, this was easily removed with a bit of tissue but unfortunately it remained there for the rest of our stay. Hand drier in the gents toilets remained out of commission for several days and had not been repaired by the time of our departure. The single unisex toilet, which had remained open for the first couple of days was then locked and remained out of service. Weeds allowed to grow on hard standings and grass not kept as short as is usual for club sites. Only time I saw wardens about was to empty the dustbins in the morning. No attempt appears to have been made to try to slow down the drivers who insist that 20 mph or more is acceptable on site, this is something which happens on a lot of sites recently but does need addressing - as was found out a few years ago at a site where there was an accident. Come on wardens, it is time to improve your game, this job is not just something to sit back and enjoy instead of retirement! Despite all this the site is well positioned for exploring the area and within walking distance of Barnard Castle if you felt like a walk.

Great Mobile Fish and Chips

Our second stay this season at Teeside and it won't be the last. Lovely site, nice and open with good sized pitches. Very clean facilities and brilliantly friendly wardens (familiar faces from other sites). Our puppy loves the dog exercise field which allows him to roam freely and safely off lead. Definitely the best fish and chips from a mobile unit ever and at competitive prices too. No wonder it does a good trade - cooked to order so a little wait but well worth while. Local buses stop on request at the site entrance and go into Barnard Castle - really simply.

handy stop over

An unnecessarily confrontational discussion over booking mix up (my fault) which I can only assume was with the same warden as previous reviewer was not a good start but the site itself is nevertheless one of the best maintained that we have visited - the facilities are spotlessly clean. Its location provides an excellent overnight stop when travelling south.
