New to us

First time here but what a find.If you caravan with a dog this site is a must. Huge dog on site exercise area and a great walk into Barnard Castle through the woods along the river. We found it to be small and quiet with immaculate facilities. Lots to see, walk into Barnatd Castle, visit Durham and it's Cathedral. Can't wait to go back.

Very good site

Stayed here for 1 night but would definitely stay again for longer. The site was well maintained and very neat. The wardens were very helpful when we booked in with suggestions of a good pitch, we had no children or dogs!. The site was peaceful but a bit of road noise as we choice a pitch that backed onto the road. Facilities were spotless.

First Visit

We stayed at this site in order to visit Barnard Castle. It is a pleasant enough site which is terraced and quite long in nature. Facilities good except for the need to still lift heavy drain covers to empty motorhome waste. Pity you have to drive out and in through barriers to get to the waste point from certain pitches. We were pitched below the toilet block which is a WiFi blackspot. My fault as I should have consulted the map in reception although an extra booster might have solved the problem? The site was a little further out of the town than I had envisaged and the walk is quite steep in parts for those with any mobility issues, or just old age!!! Barnard Castle is a nice little town which has the advantage of a Morrisons supermarket. We made the mistake of shopping there mid afternoon when it was impossible to get a taxi back to the site because of the school runs so if you want to do the same best to time it at a different time of day! No visit to Barnard Castle would be complete without a visit to the Bowes Museum, get a discount voucher from reception. Puzzled by the pricing of this site. We paid less for a service pitch at White Water Park than for an ordinary pitch here?

Impressed

First visit to this site, very impressed. Wardens friendly and helpful, a little traffic noise if you are pitched near the road, but didn't bother us or keep us awake. Everywhere is immaculate the dog meadow is superb, the only thing I noticed was the speed of some members on site, and how unfriendly people appear, said good morning to quite a few, I was lucky to get a grunt out of some, although this has nothing to do with the site, just some people in general. Just one criticism the dust on the entrance doors into the toilets must be half an inch thick on the inside, please please pay attention to this little annoyance and a plug in the ladies hand basin was missing for the whole time we were there.

Smashing site.

I stayed at the site whilst visiting family in the area and cannot say it was a bad choice. The site itself is situated very close to Barnard Castle which is a lovely little town with a big chain supermarket and a mix of national and local retailers, The Bowes Museum is well worth a visit, allow a good few hours. Needless to say the site is kept immaculate and the wardens were very friendly and very accommodating when my plans changed mid stay. Despite being right next to the road the site is peaceful and has the feel of being further out into the countryside than it actually is. The site was full on a few nights of my stay but you wouldn’t have know it and must be testament in itself as to how popular it is. All in all a smashing site and smashing wardens.

Nice Peaceful stay

We have just spent 3 nights in September, very Peaceful. Warden's were very friendly and the site is a credit to them. The only problem we saw were irresponsible drivers thinking the rules apply to others and not them, think again please!! The 5mph limit is in place for a reason....saving a couple of seconds is not worth risking a child's life!! try considering other people using the sites. We will certainly be using this site again in the future.

Outstanding for me and my dogs.

My first stay at Barnard Castle. Absolutely outstanding dog field where my two spaniels could have a huge off lead blast! Best dog walk on any site I've been on. Next to the site was an excellent riverside walk to Barnard Castle, again dogs can have a good run, or in the opposite direction a good long walk in the country. Facilities were spotless and the staff were lovely. One of the best sites I've stayed on yet.

Pleasant site

First time on this site and we were not disappointed with the site itself. The site and facilities are top notch as with most main club sites, tv was good but wi-fi was poor as usual. All the pitches are large and flat hard standing. There is a bus that will stop outside the site (can't remember where it goes) Barnard Castle is an easy walk away but it is only small so you can't spend hours there, the north Dales are within easy reach but everything else is a good drive. We spent 5 days here and did over 400 miles just going to see places, like Durham, Hartlepool, Darlington, Beamish and the Dales. The road alongside the site can be busy and noisy. Only because of its isolation I don't think we will be back.

Overpriced disappointment for motorhomers.

Site best for caravans. For motor homers this site is only useful for a stopover point as very inconvenient without a car. For us an overpriced three night stopover when travelling from west coast to east coast.
