10 Nights 18 May 2019

This was stop 7 on our multi-stop tour from Lincolnshire to Scotland (and back) with 10 nights here after a two and a half hour drive down a wet and murky A1 from Berwick Seaview. A very nice way to end our return from Scotland and a lovely place to stay. The rain had stopped on our arrival and we received a nice warm welcome from wardens Karen and Kevin who highlighted the remaining spare pitches on a site plan for us, very helpful. This is a lovely well kept modern site with an immaculate toilet/shower block. Lots of interesting places to visit in the area including Hawes, Richmond and High Force falls but our most memorable day out was at Beamish Museum which gives a big discount to club members, a place that requires a full day to explore. We had a very nice Sunday carvery at Thorpe Farm by the A66 and don't miss out on the fish and chip van that visits the site Wednesday and Saturday, it's excellent. We tried to extend our stay but although the webpage showed free it reverted to not available when submitted. I went to see the wardens and Karen fixed it for me. Thank you Karen, much appreciated. I was advised that if you have problems with a booking while on-site it is always best to ask the wardens. At night there is lighting to help you find your way around but it is discreet so look upwards and experience the fantastic presentation of the constellations. With minimum light pollution it's awesome. Well, it is when it isn't cloudy. . . The only negative here was from people who used our pitch as a short cut rather than walk round and I don't just mean on the grass between pitches but actually crunching along the gravel past the van. On our last day a lady walking a dog came through and even looked in at us through the window while we were having breakfast! Summary: In a great location just outside the town this is an immaculate site with spacious pitches and modern facilities. I definitely recommend it but try for a pitch with a hedge behind or take windbreakers to keep out the wanderers. Next stop: Home, to open bills and start up the Shredder!
