Great small site

Stayed here 10 nights this month. The site was nearly full. We were able to chose plot 17 again near the back of the site where road noise was not a problem. The site is adjacent to the wonderful Stover Country Park. The on site dog walk was good. It was good to see the newly installed barriers and ongoing building of fences. Pete the warden was hardworking and would wave back if a little reluctantly. His wife Kath seemed not to acknowledge our existence when passing 4 feet from her with a smile. Not the friendly type of warden we have met every where else.

Lovely stop-over site

We used this site as a two night stop-over. Having no bathroom facilities was fine as we were in a Motorhome. Our stay was lovely, the site was immaculate and the warden very efficient. There was nearby road noise from motorcycles and barking that was never stopped by a large inconsiderate dog owner, otherwise all good. We would use the site again to break up our journey to and from Cornwall.

Lovely presented club site without facilities

During our stay, we had relief wardens ( the latter couple)who came across as loud , unapproachable and not over friendly. Also, the park was undergoing extensive noisy and dirty work in preparation for new barriers to be installed. No, no, apology or information was posted about the inconvenience caused by ,jackhammers pounding away and general maintenance work being carried out.. although necessary because of visits from travellers, some acknowledgment of all this inconvenience ,would have gone a long way. Considering, we were on holiday, this greatly tarnished our time away...not a good experience!

Successful first caravan trip

We were club members some years ago and towed a light trailer tent behind a little 1930's Morris car. We recently upgraded to a 2005 Sprite Firebird Major caravan to use with a modern car and have spent some months refurbishing it. We live only 30 mins from this site and chose it as a safe way to test the outfit for the first time and get used to using it before venturing further afield. Of course, we know the area well and can't recommend Stover highly enough as a base for visiting all that's available. We hadn't realised until we were booking that some sites don't have toilets, but that wasn't an issue for us as we needed to check our own independence. It does mean that even at the height of the school holidays (early August 2021) there weren't many young families. There is little on offer on site for children, but lots locally. So Stover is a peaceful location for relaxing. The grounds are immaculate and maintained daily. There's a small wooded natural area for dog walking on site, and a large country park right next door. It would be good to see some wild flower areas on site to complement the traditional planting. The wifi was better than we expected for Bronze but TV reception was an issue. Our roof mounted omnidirectional antenna failed to pick up an acceptable signal from the site's own booster mast despite retuning so we were unable to use Freeview. The site information suggests turning your aerial towards the mast but of course we can't do that. We may need to upgrade our own system if this problem recurs. We had a very successful and enjoyable few days at Stover. We don't have enough recent experience of other sites to do a comparison but have no complaints whatsoever. If you prefer a smaller, quiet site in pleasant surroundings then this one is recommended.

Recent stay

We stayed on the site in early July 2021. Lovely site very clean and tidy with well kept grass areas and flowers. Site is situated just of the main A38 with is idea . Situated next to Stover Country Park which is good for dog walking. The only down side/issue is the lack of security barriers ( exit/entry). When we stayed there was only a gate which was closed at approx 8pm. This is where the issue starts, due to the lack of security barriers this allowed 2 families of Travellers to access the site. The mayhem then begun, there children and dogs where allowed to roam freely around the site, with no care for Club members. The pitchers which were taken over quickly became covered in there rubbish. Other club members who where staying on site where approached regards selling there motor homes to the travellers. Load music and anti-social behaviour became the norm. We where lucky enough to be transferred to Exeter Club Site. In short a lovely site but our experience of this has put us off staying here again. There are no Facilities on site but site is kept clean Please Please erect proper security barriers.

lovely site with great wardens (now managers)

Stayed on this site numerous times over the years Always enjoyed the site and the wardens ( who I now think are called managers) are among the best and friendliest we have come across. They seem to be continually around the site tidying, bin emptying, general maintenance. I believe. that the site will shortly have entry and exit barriers which will give added security for all although i believe the club should have done this long ago. i also believe wifi is in the process of being upgraded. Once again thanks to the wardens ( sorry managerss) for making our stay so pleasant. Hope the club let them stay a long time Will we stay here again. Of course we will

Lacking in Information

Site very peaceful. Rather disappointing that no information leaflet handed out on arrival. Would have been helpful to have rather than relying on Internet. Our next site Malvern Hills provided a very helpful leaflet and the Wardens were more welcoming.

Not for wheelchair users

Fantastic wardens, very welcoming and friendly, lovely site, very well maintained... So why only 2 stars? Not suitable for wheelchair users, pitches are almost impossible to move on as the gravel is so deep and coarse (pitch 20 and 22 were the only ones available on arrival) , there are 3 non awning pitches, which are tarmac, and more suit to wheelchair needs, but I have a drive away awning, so couldn't use them. Toilet emptying stations are inaccessible to wheelchairs, very narrow path and tight turns make it impossible to use. If you are able bodied, it is a fantastic site, as a wheelchair user, unfortunately, I won't be back. The caravan Club obviously don't consult wheelchair users, this is not the first site I have criticised, and I am sure it won't be the last. The camping and caravan Club sites are streets ahead in terms of accessibility in general
