Great Last Stop

Our Highland coastal tour ended in Stonehaven, after 10 days. We, without knowing it, saved the best site for last. We picked Stonehaven for the fish and chip shop there, they do fabulous fish! After a very friendly greeting, we found the facilities to be fantastic both in layout and cleanliness. A short stroll along the promenade, we saw dolphins leaping out of the water in the bay, takes you into town. Next time, we go to Stonehaven, it will be for the fish and chips plus the SQEP!

Thank you

Thank you to Val and Pete who were so very kind to me recently when my husband took ill on holiday. We will be back up to see you next year when we can enjoy your campsite properly.

Nice site

Arrived one night to very friendly wardens who explained everything about the site. What these wardens have achieved on site regarding the excellent standard of ground maintenance and first class cleaning standard of toilet block. It’s rare to come across this on a club site. Thanks to the wardens. Then we stepped outside the gate and what a mess. Everything was littered everywhere. All bins flowing full of takeaway cartons. Seagulls hauling all the rubbish out of bins. Notices telling you to clean up after dogs. Bag and bin it. Yeh we bagged it but no room in bins. Took it till we found a bin. The place was disgusting and filthy. Site great will only use as stopover.

Perfect and wonderful in every way

  • I marvel at the reviewer below who thought this site “soulless” and who “won’t be back”, but human nature is unpredictable and disparate points of view must be tolerated even if he is in a minority – quite possibly a minority of one!
  • Everyone I spoke to at this wonderful site thought it lovely in every way and I certainly could not dissent from that. It is well kept, neat, open, bright, cheerful, in a fantastic location and all in all is a very happy place to be.
  • It is true that there are a lot of pitches in a relatively small space. The pitches are spacious and well-spaced and there’s no sense of feeling hemmed in, but there’s no spare space, very little unused green space, and perhaps this accounts for the car park comment from the aforementioned negative reviewer.
  • This notwithstanding, the fact that it is one of the very few sites free of the usual boundary of high trees means that it does not have the enclosed feel common to so many sites. I like the fact that there are houses close too, mostly pretty little Scottish cottages and villas, overlooking two sides of the site with one larger home in an almost Art-deco design in the corner. As my friends who live close by said, it makes you feel part of the community and so much the better for that. It is a community with warmth and great friendliness.
  • I even had a sea view from my pitch (63) and, in the other direction, I had a great aspect overlooking the whole site from a slightly raised position. I really felt I had struck lucky with my pitch choice.
  • Planting more trees here would be the absolute worst of misadventures in my view.
  • The nearby, award-winning Bay fish and chips are second to none, and the confectioners and ice creamery next door serves the best vanilla ice cream I have had in years. Expect very long queues at both establishments.
  • There are lots of interesting walks, the town is a delightful little place, the harbour most attractive and the closeness to the sea makes this almost perfect.
  • For motorhomers wanting public transport, the fast X7 bus gets you to Aberdeen quickly in 35 minutes or there is the train too (for Dundee perhaps), although note that the station is an up-hill mile and a half walk.
  • This was without doubt my favourite site stayed at in a very long time and I am struggling to remember anywhere better.

Our favourite site

We have stayed at Stonehaven Club Site several times now and it by far our favourite. The wardens are welcoming, friendly and very helpful. It is spotlessly clean and tidy throughout. Its location next to the sea is lovely - you can relax and listen to the waves! Stonehaven is a busy little town especially in the summer but the site remains peaceful. Its proximity to the town and all its facilities is excellent - no need to use the car/ campervan. We never want to leave because it just feels such a nice place to be - and very popular.

First Visit

Very familiar with the area and our first stay at the site. Top marks for cleanliness, pitch sizes, wardens very professional. Other local facilities and places of interest start at the door-step of the site - so no issues for finding something to do. I noticed the review which raised the point of the site being a bit "soulless" - i agree a few more large shrubs and/or trees may soften the edges a bit - but i would not "mark-down" the site on a review for that. Wardens - once more.....top marks for your welcome, your energy and discipline in facility management and all the way through to your farewell.

Excellent

A return visit after a few years for a seven night stay. The only word to describe our stay is excellent. Nice large pitches. Wardens very friendly and busy keeping the site up to the high standards expected by members. Plenty to see and do close by and further afield. The bay chippy for fish and chips and the ice cream shop next door, highly recommended. Planning our next visit already.

The local fish n chips are good

Clean, tidy and a bit soulless. It felt like being in a car park in the middle of town. Overlooked by residential houses and with no trees it felt very exposed. We only stayed one night and we won't be going back.

Excellent site , had a great stay will have to come back again

We stayed here 25-26 July 2019 , main purpose of our stay was to visit family in nearby Portlethen. We had travelled from Cambridgeshire, the journey was good except the generic sign for the Campsite from the A92 didn't mention that a road was closed so we had to attempt to turn round with a smart car on tow !!!! Not a CAMC problem I know, but it did mess up our arrival slightly. We were met by Pete Morgan the warden, who is excellent very helpful and pleasant and I couldn't believe that he originally came from a village a mile from from where we live ! What small world. Site was busy and was allowed to pick pitch of our choice , we found a nice pitch at the back slightly raised which looked over the campsite towards the sea. There is a play park and outdoor pool next to the site , however we were close to the fence and the noise didn't disturb us , others may think otherwise , if so get a pitch over the other side. The site was full and we were lucky with the weather , it is a very well kept site and a credit to to the wardens , very nice atmosphere on the site everyone seemed friendly. Toilet block was clean and never had a problem finding a free shower cubicle , there are two blocks. You can walk right out the site entrance basically onto the beach where you can walk up and long to the harbour, it is a lovely , but busy spot. We didn't stay too local as we were visiting family , but the road links close to the site were excellent for visiting Aberdeen and further afield. We were amazed in the mornings at how quiet the site was considering it was full and had lots of children on it , everyone seemed to respect each other , it was a pleasure to be at this site and definitely one on our list for returning to.

Excellent Site, another great relaxing weekend

We were back again this weekend 20/07 and 21/07/2019 for the Stonehaven Highland Games. We can only say again what we said in previous reviews. An immaculately kept, clean friendly site. On the A92 coast road heading North to Stonehaven, stopped to watch 3 Whales just of the coastline. Agian site was at full capacity. Val and Pete, the full time wardens were back again after a short break. I am sure Val fits Pete to a High Energy intravenous drip over night as he seems to have endless get up and go, continually on site doing various tasks and jobs. As does Val, I was having a lunch time cuppa and roll watching Val vigorously cleaning the kids play area and games toys. Met a few interesting people from all over UK and further. 10/10 again.
